Massey University New Zealand (Graduate Coursework)
I taught English for eleven years in Asia and the Middle East, at first to children, preschoolers and middle school students, then to university students. I have done seminars and designed programs. I'd prefer to tutor reading, and I am a languages writer / publisher. I have published two dictionaries with other linguistic and language learning information, one for New Zealand Maori, and one for Native American (Hlingit or Tlingit). I have seven other language projects I've researched for about 20 years. I speak fluent Samoan, reasonable Maori, basic Chinese and French, and a little Scottish Gaelic. I have made unique discoveries in linguistics and anthropology, which appear in my latest book.
Other subjects I've taught at university are: speech making, drama, pronunciation, negotiation, teaching English (to teachers), English for business and English for tourism, business writing, geography. I have taught preschool general subjects (art, science, math, crafts, geography, reading, drama, singing).
I also taught in New Zealand public schools a little - Maori language and dance / song, Scottish Gaelic, reading tutoring. I first taught at eleven years old, in Samoa, and I was a substitute teacher when I was still in high school. I was a high honor student when at high school, but since then I have been more freethinking. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have researched languages 20 years, including cultures worldwide (and lived in many countries including China, Korea, Samoa, Hawaii, France, Saudi Arabia, New Zealand, USA). I write language books, with dictionaries and a lot of linguistic and archaeological, DNA, anthropological evidence, especially on ancient humans and hominids. I am from a multicultural background. I have studied a class in Medieval History at university, Maori Culture one year full-time, have practiced Indian yoga culture in residential practice six years. I have taught geography at university for a term.
I have taught this a lot over the eleven years that I taught ESL, and have designed systems for teaching it. I have taught a pronunciation course at university. I taught professors this in Saudi Arabia as part of a course that I designed for them. In my education degree study, I was best recognized for reading study, in which a focus was phonics.
I have taught actual classes in speech-making at university several times (full term courses), and have given numerous lectures in class, in seminars and independently, on many subjects. I have made speeches in various other languages, including Maori and Chinese. My public speaking students have won awards. I have a clear method for success. I have also taught drama in various countries, for various ages. I also sing, and perform songs, and have performed songs in various languages. I first studied speech-making in 1979.
