About Marieke

I am a performing musician, yogi, writer, editor, and songwriter. I grew up playing classical piano. I currently compose music and perform on the ukulele and guitar. I lead songwriting workshops and compose original music from spoken stories. I have worked with people from around the world to create a song from the stories of their lives. I have also written music from oral histories. I spent a year teaching English in elementary schools in Quimper, France, and I am currently enrolled in an online International TEFL Academy course. I hold a Master's in Environmental Education and a PhD in Sustainability Education.

I have certification from Entrepreneur Accelerator Program in Lowell, MA. I developed a unique method of songwriting called Story-to-Song (STS), where a song is composed from a spoken story.

Ever dreamed of being a songwriter? You can! I will work with you to compose your very own unique song! Looking for new ways to learn English? Develop your English speaking, reading, and comprehension skills through songwriting. I hold a 200hr YTT for Hatha Yoga and offer private and group classes for native English speakers and for those wishing to improve their English-language skills and understanding.

For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Songwriting

I am classically trained on the piano and have played ukulele for seven years and guitar for ten years. I developed a unique method of songwriting that I call Story-to-Song (STS), where I work with individuals and groups of people to compose a song from their spoken story. I was accepted into and completed an entrepreneur accelerator program for this business idea. I have led songwriting workshops around the country at universities and conferences. I have composed songs from oral histories and spoken stories from individuals, graduate students, and in connection with the National Park Service.
