About Jennifer

I received my B.ARCH from one of the country's top schools for Architecture, as well as receiving a minor in History. I am a firm believer in that the best way to learn something, especially a computer program, is to learn by doing, and have taught myself a number of programs, as well as having taken courses throughout school. My well rounded education provided me with the knowledge of a number of computer programs related to design and presentation, including 3d modeling, rendering, photo editing, drafting, and other elements. Currently I am employed as an architectural designer at a top NYC architecture and interiors firm.

Architecturally I use 2D and 3D programs on a daily basis. AutoCAD, Rhino, Revit, Sketchup, etc. I am VERY familiar with. If you are looking for a tutorial on how to get started with these programs, or need help with homework for a specific class, I am definitely someone who can help.

Part of my architectural education was based around presentation graphics, graphic essays, and graphic representation. Thus I have become very familiar with Adobe Creative Suite, namely Photoshop, Illustrator and In Design, as well as with putting together graphic presentations, Logos, and layouts.

I am also an avid traveler, and have spent a lot of time abroad. My love for history, as well as the arts, has made experiencing other cultures a very important part of my life. Originally from the west coast, I am an outgoing person and would love to help make things easier for you or your child even if it is something as simple as writing a history essay, studying for history AP or IB exams, or learning AutoCAD or Rhino 3d programs for college courses!

Feel free to get in touch with me about any questions you may have!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Illustrator

I am very familiar with the Adobe Creative Suite, Illustrator being one of my top programs. From using it to create basic diagrams to graphic design and vector manipulation, there are so many ways that illustrator can be used. Architectural plans are often made much nicer through the use of the line weight tool, or the layering and development of a rendering can be manipulated using both Photoshop and Illustrator at the same time.

With the newer version allowing for more control and changing of a layout, illustrator has many elements now that allow for the creation of a booklet or graphic presentation without even opening in design.

Adobe InDesign

Adobe InDesign is any design student's go-to program for presentations or portfolios. I have used it from CS2 through to CS5, and am familiar with everything from creating templates, page set up and layouts, using it along with other adobe programs, photo and text editing within InDesign, as well as a number of other elements.

I also use it daily in my office for presentations.

Adobe Photoshop

Photoshop is a complex program, and once you get passed the basics the things you can do with it still amaze me daily. I use it extremely often to fix up a basic rendering or photo, and the graphic manipulation that you can do with the program is amazing. From basic color changing and selection, to photo manipulation, filters, and layering, the program is very complex once you delve into the other things that can be done.

It is possible to take an interior shot that is flat and dull, and add everything from lighting, daylighting, people, objects to tables and walls, materials, and other ambiance to certain scenes.

After receiving my B.Arch. from one of the top schools in the country, I have a well rounded education including architectural theory and writing, architectural history in a number of various eras, as well as design.

I am very competent in almost all aspects related to the architectural field, including those which are required to work in an architectural office.

I haven been using AutoCAD since I was in high-school, when I was taking a CAD class as a professional elective. Since then, I have taken a number of courses as well as having used it almost every day in school and in my professional practices.

A few of the many elements that I can help with are x-refing, plot-styles, sheet set up, blocks, layers, image referencing, importing and exporting to and from programs such as Revit, Rhino, and Adobe Illustrator, typical office use, general project structure, design with AutoCAD, and a number of other elements. I am very confident in this program and have already taught others how to use it from the ground up.

I switched from a PC to a Mac in 2006, and have since used my personal computer all throughout school as well as in professional situations. I am very fluent in navigating both a Mac and PC, and if you have recently switched over and are looking for a basic tutorial or a more in depth answer to questions you may have I am here to help. I can set up programs, provide instruction on how to use the computer and specific programs that come installed.

To clarify, I am not an IT person; if there are computer problems that require a person to fix the hardware, that is not what I am familiar with, however general trouble shooting and learning the ins and outs of your Mac is definitely up my alley!

Revit is a very complex program, and my understanding of it grows every day I use it, and I have been working in it consistently for months. One of the most difficult parts of the program to understand is how to use it in an office environment where others are contributing to it, as well as with Linked models from consultants. I can get you started with the basics and the interface, and then help you understand families and editing the model in place, as well as setting up drawing sets and sheets. I can also help with annotations and putting together plans and elevations using filters, and then noting the drawing. I am increasing my knowledge every day of parametric families and other elements, and the one area of the program I am not familiar with is Rendering right out of Revit using plugin or just Revit.

I have built models from the ground up as well as am currently working on a very complex project that requires the use of very detailed work-sets and work-sharing. If you are looking for a crash course in the basics plus a little extra I can definitely help!

Writing has been a skill of mine ever since I was young. In middle school I was writing at a high-school level, and I always received very high marks on essays and other assignments that required putting thoughts on paper.

Whether it is History or English, or some sort of varied theory class or college entrance essay, I can help. There are many ways to structure ones thoughts, and depending on the type of essay various approaches can warrant different results. I can help determine the best route to take and how to take it.

Essays about books (for an English class) are extremely different that an essay about a historical event. Though some of the base structure is the same and is based on a similar pattern, the approach and language for each type differs.

If you are looking for help with proof-reading, setting up an essay, and deciphering parts of book in order to write a literary essay on I can help!

Loved Jennifer! She was very helpful and patient. The distance to get to her was a little far, but manageable. I would definitely use her again.
