Having been a professional teacher for many years, most recently in a private, K-8 setting where I taught Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science, I believe in discipline and practice, but only if it's fun! Therefore I have always endeavored to tailor my teaching style to the needs and interests of my students. Although I no longer teach in a school setting, I have continued to educate children and adults as a private tutor. In general, I most enjoy and find optimum value in an interdisciplinary approach to all subject materials. In my view, clarity of observation and attention are at the heart of all learning. In this view, for example, reading is not separate from writing, and both can be applied to and generated by observation and thoughtful contemplation - the roots of all great science and innovation. I enjoy working one-on-one with students because this allows for completely individualized curriculum and focus. I look forward to working with you!

Elementary (K-6th)

I taught professionally (though am not certified) at The Children's School of Excellence from 1999 through 2010. Although most of my classes were for 4th through 6th graders (combined classes), I also taught 2nd and 3rd grade science. I have extensive tutoring experience with children in the K-6th grade age ranges. I have no doubt I can be of valuable service as a tutor for children in this category.

I have been both a classroom teacher and a private tutor for the better part of the last 20 years. During this time, I have taught dozens of elementary, middle school, and high school students in a broad range of academic disciplines. I am committed to tailoring lessons and methods to each student's particular learning style and needs. This ability is particularly important in a homeschooling setting, and I am confident I can offer profound help and service in this area.
Study Skills,

Study Skills

For the last 16 years I have served my community as a teacher and tutor. I have taught dozens of students at the elementary, middle school, high school, and adult continuing education levels. In all of these settings, I have included study skills as a fundamental part of what it takes to be a successful student. Teaching students how to prioritize the tasks at hand, how to manage their time, and how to mentally prepare for test situations have all been a part of my approach as a teacher and tutor. As a graduate of Brown University (Ivy League), I developed excellent study skills early on and have applied them to all of my endeavors since, including educational, creative, and professional. Altogether, I would say that I am profoundly qualified to teach and support students in their development of strong study skills and habits.

As I mentioned above, I am currently tutoring a high school student in Algebra 1, via the Penn Foster online curriculum. I am extremely pleased with the results. I will be continuing to tutor this student through Algebra 2 and trigonometry, as is required by his college of choice, to which he is applying. I have no doubt that I can help you and your niece to master Algebra 1 in an effective and timely manner.

Having been a semi-professional singer/songwriter in New York City, Seattle, and most recently in the Olympia, Washington area, I am thoroughly qualified to tutor in this subject area. Amazing with my son!

Suzanne is amazing with my son. She has been amazing with getting him to come out of his shell. Mikey is coming around building his confidence and getting right back to learning. This is completely amazing because he confidence was shattered by the school system and teacher telling him over and over that he was always behind. Also doing this in front of a classroom of his class mates. I would highly recommend Suzanne.

Simply the best!

Mrs, Suzanne is simply the best!!! I'm a mother of 4 children from ages 5-11! I have three boys and one daughter. Also i might mention I have 4 nephews, and a neice who live at my house half the time whose ages are from 1- 13! In saying that Mrs. Suzanne is incredible! She has so much patience! My boys look forward to her presence and as a mother their is nothing more pleasing. My boys attention spans are well...let's just say they are busy, but with Suzanne that is no problem. She took what they are intrested in and uses it in her lesson plan which has worked wonders and helps keep their attention. My sons confidence levels were extemly low in he considered himself "dumb" do to his lack of reading skills. He was literally failing every single spelling test. He now is scoring high B's. She goes above in beyond and always has a smile on her face. She took my son's math home and reviewed it not once but twice to better accomadate his needs. To create a lesson plan and a way to try to help him and HIS learning style! I seriously could go on and on but really if your child is in need of some extra help she is fantastic!! I could not of asked for someone more perfect for my kids!

An excellent fit!

Suzanne N. seems to be the perfect tutor for my two boys (ADHD) who both struggle with the workload at the Middle and High School levels. Suzanne created an engaging lesson to address their time management issues. She showed a great deal of respect and appreciation for their intelligence and personality. She understands my mission, which is to help them learn the skills they need to be successful students. Most importantly, they had fun doing it! Both boys are looking forward to working with her on a weekly basis, and expressed more confidence in starting the new semester knowing that they'll have support in navigating the system that has been holding them back.
