About Rosalind

I love to learn and I love to teach, which often makes me enthusiastic and animated. I attribute this love of learning to my Junior High science teacher. An awesomely smart lady, who taught like a college professor and always expected you to bring your "A" game. Challenge accepted. By high school I was going to Lower Columbia College as a full-time Running Start student and graduated with an Associates Degree one week after receiving my high school diploma. I went on to Eastern Washington University pursuing my passion of Forensic Anthropology. In scoring the highest out of my class on the Bone Identification Test, I was offered the position of Laboratory Assistant for Physical Anthropology. I helped teach the identification and anatomy of the human skeleton, often providing tutoring sessions after class/lab hours. Also during this time, I was asked by one of my professors to tutor several foreign exchange students who were having difficulty understanding the rather wordy complexities of anthropological theory. Within a month, these students successfully brought their grades up to passing and began to compete very well with their peers. After earning my Bachelors Degree, and while determining graduate school options, I was employed by the Work Opportunity Center of Cowlitz County, a subsidiary of Tacoma Goodwill Industries. First as a Case Manager for the Summer Youth Employment Program and then as a Support Services and Veterans Outreach Coordinator for the Career Pipeline Project in Warehousing, Distribution, and Logistics. Throughout my tenure there, I worked with youth, adults, seniors, veterans, and ex-offenders, all with various learning styles and life circumstances. In addition to case management and my other duties, I supplemented their course curriculum with resume and interview skills. I am happy to say that I had a very high rate of clients deciding to pursue further education. I too went on to continue my own education, earning a Master's Degree of Health Policy and Administration from Washington State University Spokane.

I have recently returned to the Longview-Kelso area for family reasons and while I am getting re-established in the community I would like to continue to inspire others in the love of learning by offering my education, experience, skills, and enthusiasm as a tutor.

My math level in college went through Trigonometry, but I find Algebra to be the most fun.

With an undergraduate degree in Forensic Anthropology I have both the science aspect of anatomy and identification of the human body, particularly the skeleton, as well as the social and cultural components. Anthropology also includes the study of Archaeology. In all aspects, research methodologies, objectivity, and presentation (oral and written) is highly utilized.

No matter your age, ability, or life circumstance, learning is such a wonderful thing. No matter what degree, certificate, or accomplishment you are pursuing, once you have achieved it, no one can take it away from you. Please don't hesitate to contact me with questions and/or to schedule tutoring sessions. I look forward to working with you soon!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anthropology

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology. This means that I have completed extensive studies in cultural anthropology, physical anthropology, medical anthropology, archaeology, research methods, anthropological theory, Native Americans, and socio-linguistics. While completing this degree, I was asked by one of my professors to tutor several international students in the concepts of anthropological theory.

Public Speaking

I have spoken at a number of local, national, and international symposiums, presenting my original undergraduate research. Also while working for Tacoma Goodwill Industries I spoke at a number of local events in the effort to promote the grant project I was working on and garner community support. Over the years, I have helped a number of students, clients, and peers with presentation construction and delivery (including interview skills).

Writing

In starting college at the age of 16, I have written many school papers on various topics--from the migratory workers of Nepal to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Additionally, in my work on grant projects, I have written progress reports submitted for federal review. I can help you with grammar, spelling, research, and developing cogent and thorough analyses.
