I lived and worked in Japan for many years for the U.S. Army using my bilingual skills to negotiate agreements between the U.S. Army and various Japanese Governmental agencies. Back in the United States, I worked for an arm of the Japanese Government helping Japanese businesses in developing International Trade with in the United States. I worked bilingually in Japanese and English both as an interpreter and negotiating international trade agreements. I enjoy helping Americans learn to speak Japanese.

Just met Jim, and he is full of information about Japanese and Japan. My current goal is to get comfortable with particles and learn more verbs -- pretty basic stuff. I want to pass the N4 JLPT test in a year, although am pretty confident I will be able to pass N3 by that time. I believe Jim can help me in this process and give me delightful insight into Japan and its history along the way.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Studied American History from the initial settling in the United States up to the present time, focusing on both the affects on the native populations caused by this and the impact and influence of both legal and illegal immigrants.
During an 8 year residency in Japan in the fifties I both studied art at Sophia University in Tokyo and took private lessons from a Japanese artist. I painted on glass; studied and produced Kamakura style wood carvings; carved and printed Japanese style wood block prints and studied Japanese brush painting. I visited many Japanese art museums, attended art lectures in Japan and read many books on the history and changes in Japanese art. Back in the United States I once was guest lecturer on Japanese art at a Community College.
Have taught Bible studies and Bible exposition for years. Have written several study guides and expositions on specific scripture in the Bible.
I have worked with persons with a variety of barriers to employment helping them decide on what career to pursue using a wide variety of valid tests. I am certified in giving, scoring and interpreting most psychological tests and have a Master's Degree in Psychology and had a national certification as a Vocational Evaluator. I worked as a consultant with Labor and Industries as well as the Department of Veteran Affairs assisting people make career changes. I am currently facilitating classes on career development with persons on TANF, helping them develop the tools they need to become employed.
I have a Master's degree in Psychology with an emphasis in clinical aspects. I did a graduate research project working with a family with dyslexia. I learned various training techniques to assist children learn to ways to deal with their disability. I've spent over 35 years working with persons with a variety of disabilities with an emphasis on vocational rehabilitation.

I taught ESL at a private college in Japan many years ago and when I returned to the United States I taught ESL at a Community College in California. I've worked assisting foreign born students improve their English conversational skills here in Washington State lately along with other subjects. I enjoy helping people learn to understand and speak English to whatever level of fluency they desire to achieve.

I have been using Microsoft Excel since 1995 in it's various versions. Before that I used DSB and Lotus so I'm familiar with the concepts and can design spreadsheets and insert formulas. I've also used Google Docs Spreadsheets lately.
I have used Microsoft Powerpoint to develop and show presentations for the State of Washington in the past.
I have been using various versions of Microsoft windows since 1995. Prior to that I used Apple operating systems. I currently am using Windows 7 and anticipate upgrading after the Windows 360 has been debugged.
I've been using Microsoft Word since 1995 and am currently using the latest version of Microsoft Word. Prior to that I used Applesoft and Wordperfect in it's various formats. I've been certified before by an independent agency.
I studied typesetting in school and therefore had to proofread my finished work before it was printed. I wrote articles for publication, also proofreading them before submission. I was editor of a house organ which also required proofreading before printing. I have a Master's degree which required my papers to be proofread before turning them in.
I have acted on the stage in equity waiver productions; been on television several times, on the radio including a stint hosting a call in talk show program; was a judge for High School Debate and speech contests in Washington state for 2 years; am an advanced member of Toastmasters; have given talks before professional groups and associations on a variety of topics. I was also a guest lecturer at the University of San Francisco.
