University of Washington (Biology)
I had many tutors growing up, and this helped me understand what qualities I admire in a teacher. I found that I learned best when I incorporated a wide array of learning devices in my studies. My goal is to incorporate a variety of teaching styles and techniques in order to help the student retain difficult material. I don’t want to just teach the material, I want my students to develop a lifelong skill set that they can use in any setting, while simultaneously improving their grades as an outcome.
I graduated from the University of Washington with a BS in Biology. I have a passion for natural sciences and have taken a numerous biology and microbiology courses, averaging A grades in the biology field throughout my undergraduate degree. As a student I developed my own study skills throughout my academic career. I found that studying with my peers helped accelerate my learning and soon found myself tutoring many of my classmates. I designed mock worksheets and exams to test my student’s ability to understand material and urge them to try and create their own. I enjoy breaking down complex concepts into simple key points, and I’ve found that a patient approach is crucial when helping a student grasp difficult subjects. The ability to create your own study routine is a key to success.
I look forward to helping you achieve your goals!

Celeste helped thoroughly review a large lab assignment, taught subject matter through the review, and then even helped edit the paper after the lesson. Young, smart and patient, Celeste will be a regular in helping our HS soph get the most from biology.
Celeste is very knowledgeable, patient and well prepared. She is also flexible with time and location. My daughter is pleased to work with Celeste. We are planning to have more lessons with her. I would highly recommend as a tutor.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a university student, I know how daunting studying can be. I have found that the best way to teach others (and myself) is to try and study in as many ways as possible. I use a combination of word association, song writing, diagramming, color usage and repetition to help myself learn. Sometimes I will even create a mock exam to test my knowledge. I hope to apply this methodology to my pupils.
I have tutored peers of mine while I was in college. It was not a formal arrangement but I would meet up with my classmate several times in a week and we would review the material she needed to learn. I would then come up with different studying techniques she needed to focus on. I graduated from the University of Washington with a BS in Biology.
