Principia College (Music)
Growing up with a parent who was also a teacher, I had the enjoyable opportunity to accompany my mother on some of her ESL teaching classes! From those early classroom days to life as a post-graduate, I still am always excited at the opportunity of teaching anyone a new concept - whether it is reading, writing, phonics, math, or music!
As far as what I can assist with, I am more than happy to provide anyone with an interest in English with the patience and humor it takes to get through the initial stages that are a challenge!
When it comes to reading, writing, or math at the elementary school age, I am happy to help your child understand the concepts and look beyond the normal teaching methods. (With a background in theater, that comes in handy with teaching anything!) I also welcome any special needs cases, as I know anyone can learn with the right amount of patience and love!
I graduated with a major in Flute Performance, and a certification in Suzuki Method teacher training. Suzuki method encourages the philosophy of "every child (or adult!) can!" Not starting from a basis of in-born potential, but from the idea that any student who applies him or herself will be rewarded with what many people term "talent" - but it is really a natural thing to expect from everyone, and not just a select few.
I am eager and happy to help anyone who has just begun their flute adventures and work to reveal the talent you already possess! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I studied music at Principia College in Elsah, IL, graduating in Spring of 2013 with a major in Flute Performance. I have studied and taken masterclasses from established flutists in the field, and have performed and studied flute for over 12 years. In January 2011, I became certified to teach Suzuki Method Book 1 for Flute. This past school year, I tutored flute students one-on-one at a local elementary school. I am excited to teach you/your child the flute with a positive, nurturing method that has been established with the motto: "Every child can!"
I studied music at Principia College, graduating in 2013. I studied flute in college, but have experience also to teach "beginner level" piano, guitar, and voice. Whether it is interest in starting an instrument, or learning music theory, I have a range of experience to get you started!
I studied Music at Principia College in Elsah, IL, with a major in Flute Performance in May 2013. I studied abroad in Europe for three months, learning particularly about the history of music as it pertains to Western Classical music, from Gregorian Chant - 21st Century. While I have particularly focused on classical music, I am also always interested in learning of other genres and have made it my own goal to learn as much as I can about world music, jazz and rock history!
