About Raleigh

Hello,

I am interested in opportunities to provide tutoring services to high school students, with a focus on Calculus, Algebra, and Geometry. I am also available to tutor science classes: Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Students taking my lessons will learn the material for their course and study strategies that will help them in future classes.

My approach is to teach the student how to identify the nature of the problem and to recognize the appropriate way to solve it. We work through the process several times together, identifying simple, logical steps for solving each type of problem. And then, I give the student sample problems to solve independently and coach them further as needed. My main goal is to make sure the student is self-sufficient, and capable of using the methods on quizzes and tests.

With respect to my educational background and work experience, I graduated from the University of Washington with a BS in Physiology. While in college, I helped conduct autism research for 4 years at Seattle Children's Hospital and Center on Human Development and Disability. I'm currently a Math and Science tutor at Cascadia College, and Huntington Learning Center. In college, I completed math through Calculus 3 and am proficient in Advanced Trigonometry, Calculus 1 and 2. My favorite types of math are Calculus, Trigonometry, Geometry, Algebra 1 and 2. I truly like and understand math concepts and enjoy helping others understand the underlying principles.

For new students, I provide a free lesson to determine if it's a good fit. I would like to meet with you and discuss potential tutoring opportunities.

Thank you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Precalculus

This was my favorite subject in High School, and I did very well in the class. I know some great techniques for solving the problems efficiently.

Excellent teaching and communication skills

Raleigh has been working with our son, preparing him for college calculus. He is always on time, friendly and well prepared. We have had tutors before, none of which connected so well with our son and was so effective with getting the lesson plan or math concepts across. Raleigh has a passion for teaching and makes the dry material more interesting and attainable for his students. He encourages an
