Numerous successes in school and many years of work experiences as a supervisor prepared me to do well as a tutor.

At my high school, two out of three years, I ranked in the top three on the national math test.

While in college I did extremely well in subjects in which attention to detail was critical. More than one instructor requested my help in proofreading and editing mathematics or computer science textbooks.

In the workplace, I was promoted to Service Manager and given many workers to train. I discovered that each person had a different way of learning. If I did not get the desired result from one of these workers, I would reconsidered the teaching approach I used with them to see if it could be improved.

When I returned to college to study Computing and Software Systems, I observed that most instructors either did not have the time or the desire to adapt to the students’ needs. Wanting to help, I enrolled in a tutor training course and then worked in computer and math labs, where I could assist my classmates in many subjects. As a tutor, I am often able to provide what the instructor cannot.

I am patient and understanding, but also thorough and detail oriented. Rather than just showing the students a correct way to perform an operation, I prefer to ask the right questions that will help the student think of a way to find it.

I like seeing people reach their potential--and, if I am able in some way to help them in getting there, I find that especially fulfilling.

C++

As part of the requirements of the University of Washington's Computing and Software Systems bachelor's degree, I completed four C++ courses and then used the programing experience to complete many projects for other courses. Additionally, I took a college course on tutoring techniques and later was paid to tutor and/or monitor various computer labs. I did very well in all of the C++ classes and was able to help others because of my training.

Computer Programming

As part of the requirements of the University of Washington's Computing and Software Systems bachelor's degree, I completed four C++ courses and then used the programming skills to complete many projects for other courses. I did very well in all of my C++ classes and had opportunities to help other students with their programming. Since then, I have also studied Java and Python and have tutored many college students to help them write code with those languages for their programming courses.
Computer Science,

Computer Science

I have been a student in the computing and software systems bachelor's degree program at the Bothell, WA, campus of the University of Washington. In fact, I have finished all of the required classes except the 400-hour internship, for which I am currently searching. Studies for this program included computer science, computer hardware, system analysis & design, and a lot of software development--mostly using C++. I also took a college course on tutoring techniques and later was paid to tutor and/or monitor various computer labs.

Great SAT Tutor

Don was very flexible in meeting my son at a mutual location. After my son's multiple sessions with Don, he was more confident. Don was able to break down the areas where he should concentrate and provided him some tools to help him. Greatly appreciate his flexibility, teaching techniques and knowledge.

Great Economics tutor

It was my son's first session. Don was very kind and easy to talk to. I think he is going to be extremely helpful. Don is making sure that the lessons to come move smoothly by having Easton submit his homework to him by email before the lesson to review. Don took his time answering questions clearly. My son really enjoyed working with him and looks forward to the lessons to come.

Very Helpful

Don was incredibly knowledgeable, patient and eager to assist me with prep for a statistics exam. He was able to work with my schedule and did a good amount of research on the topic prior to meeting with me. I plan on utilizing his services in the coming school year.

Don, Bent over backwards to help me with this assignment, I tried to give him plenty of time, even though we were in different time zones. He explained a very complex problem in a way I could understand. Thanks don. Lindsey
