I am a certified teacher with 14 years experience teaching English in both public and private schools. I have extensive experience with one-on-one instruction from grade school through adult at all ability levels.
Currently I am tutoring adults in ESL. Included among my students are those from Japan, Poland, Saudi Arabia, India, Ehtiopia, Ukraine, China, Iraq and Mexico. These students are at all ability levels from beginning learners to advanced professionals. I am finding that I am learning as much about their diverse cultures as my students are learning about the English language. Tutoring with them is most rewarding!
At the private school, I have also taught students with special challenges such as ADD/ADHD, social anxiety, depression, and anorexia. Being able to explain your frustrations, face to face with a professional educator can be the first step in a whole new way of learning. I will build on your strengths as a bridge to improving your weaknesses, all in a safe environment based on trust and personal integrity. Karen taught my daughter, Harjeet, how to relate events and the time line. Karen's approach to adapt to Harjeet's situation is commendable. She is not just tutoring, she is addressing Harjeet's need at this time. Karen is a great teacher and she deserves excellent grade for her work.
This evening is my first class, I feel a little nervous. But Karen is very patient, let me gradually relax, I am very lucky to find such a tutor like Karen. She made a lesson and analyzed my language level. She thought I should focus on improving the vocabulary, and then practicing grammar. I was very well in the judgment. She has a sense of responsibility for helping me improve my language. Actually, she has a lot of students to follow her and I'm not surprised.
We are very happy with Karen and what she is doing with our daughter. Karen is well liked by our daughter and has given her excellent ideas to improve her study skills. I would recommend her to anyone who is looking for a person that invests in her students success! Thank you, Karen!!!
She always well prepared lessons and gave me the best lessons possible. She also knew what level I was and focused on the area should be improved. Definitely, I recommend her to you. Good luck to your study!
Karen is great! I had her for speech. We met once a week, but she also made the time to look over my speeches via the email.
Dear, Karen! Thank you very much for giving me a good start!
Finally, I have passed TOEFL!!! Now I can continue climbing my career ladder!
Great tutor. Gets along well with our daughter. She gives us very good lesson summaries, which are very helpful. Thanks, Theresa
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught English and related subjects -- drama, speech, general humanities/social studies -- in both public and private schools for 14 years.
I have also taught ESL to individuals, small groups and full classrooms ranging in age from young teens to adults. Included among my students were individuals from Japan, China, South America, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia and India. I have worked for a company which provided the curriculum (Japanese exchange students) and have designed programs for other small groups and individuals. Currently I am working almost exclusively with adults who wish to improve their English skills.
I have taught English and related subjects for 14 years in both the public and private school systems in Washington State. Included in the English curricula were speech and drama. As well as classroom work for Drama, I put on over 20 high school theatre productions. Preparing students for particiation in a dramatic production is the ultimate in teaching "Public Speaking" skills.
I have also taught speech at the high school level as a separate classroom subject I have worked with a valedictorian on her graduation speech and have some experience with debate class.
I have taught English for 14 years in both the public and private school systems. As part of the English curriculum, I taught study skills -- reading comprehension, skimming, summarizing, analyzing, note taking, listening, organizing, test taking, etc. Sometimes these skills were incorporated in a general classroom instruction; sometimes they were taught separately as specific learning skills, especially at the private school which focused on one-on-one instruction. Some of my students at the private school faced challenges such as ADD/ADHD, Asperger's, social anxiety, drug addiction histories, and depression. These students were most likely to need individual instruction in basic study techniques.
I am a certified teacher who has taught English, ESL, Speech and Drama for 14 years in both public and private schools at the high school level. In addition, I have taught ESL for 5 years as a private tutor, basically for professional adults. I am a strong advocate of one-on-one instruction and have taught in a one-one-one format for 10 years.
