About Kady

Hello students!

My name is Kady. I have been tutoring students in the Bellingham area for 2 years now. One thing I like to instill in my students is confidence as they begin the journey in mastering tough subjects in school. I like to give you a positive learning environment that helps my students relax, focus, and look forward to learning. One of the ways I help students is assess their strong and weak points when it comes to a subject, then through thorough preparation and practice help them become a well rounded student.

A technique I like to give my students small worksheet practices that challenge them in areas that builds and expand their knowledge. These are almost like quizzes except for the fact that I don't use these to make the student anxious or pressured, but as a way which allows you to have a visualization of the areas they struggle with but also tangible evidence that they are improving in their studies. This helps the students gain confidence as they advance through their lessons.

I am a student at Whatcom Community College so I personally understand the frustration, weariness and shyness a student can feel when you can not seem to grasp a subject. Often times all it takes is a little bit of patience and thoroughness that helps the student piece together the information they are learning. I believe jumping between one point to another can become confusing especially if the student is still concentrating on other material. I take things one step at a time that allows the student to master one approach before moving to another. This helps them become active thinkers with the ability to solve problems without constant help from an instructor.

My tutoring style is a positive encouragement, I believe that a negative learning environment hinders and suppresses one's ability to focus as well as their willingness to learn. I encourage each student to ask as many questions that are necessary as each question is one step closer to mastering the material, after all there is no such thing as a stupid question!

Communication is key between tutor and student are vitally important as it allows me how you are feeling with the learning process and whether some techniques are not working or if you feel other techniques are better. If you are a parent, communication is key with one another as well especially since you want to see your child improving. I like to give progress updates to parents and also communicate whether the student can benefit from extra time tutoring or whether spending extra time on some material that was covered previously. Tutoring is a partnership between student and tutor and I aim to give the best experience possible that will help you meet your goals.

I urge you to message me if you would like to meet me and see if I will be a good fit for you! I offer flexible hours ranging from the early afternoon til the evening and weekend tutoring is available. I am also available for short notice tutoring if you are nearing a deadline for an assignment. I look forward to hearing from you and helping you with your studies.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I have a long history of attending church growing up, where I have gone for over 15 years. I also attended a religious school for 4 years where I was taught different passages of the Bible. I also taught a small group of children on Bible passages once a week at church for 5 months before placing myself in a more challenging Bible studies class.

Cooking

Cooking is one of my favorite hobbies. I grew up in the kitchen, and in a German household, food is the most important thing at family gatherings. I have self taught myself how to cook a variety of different cuisines as well as been instructed by multiple home chefs. I also have experience teaching smaller children how to bake as well as teenagers on how to prepare certain dishes.

Elementary Math

I have 2 years tutoring experience in Bellingham where I have helped students learn little tips and tricks with math that makes it easier to understand. I have found that in most cases the students just need a different way of looking at things and once they get that visualization their world of understanding opens up. I use a solid and thorough approach and avoid constantly changing the lesson so the student has time to soak the material in and deepen their understanding. I tutor in a positive environment so the student is not weary of making mistakes and opens up to asking questions better.

English

English is a fascinating language because it is a melting pot of different languages blended in one. This can be confusing with students because there are some "funny" rules that may seem to some as nonsense; however, the beauty in the English language is that I am able to help a student expand their horizons and deepen their understanding in English. I can help a student learn the different rules in English and help them learn how to use that to their advantage. Helping them with English helps them open new worlds when writing essays and speeches and help them enjoy their imagination.

Prealgebra

Math itself is like building a house; Prealgebra is the foundation to the house while everything else eventually gets put on top. That is why understanding Prealgebra is so vital, because each new lesson builds on the previous lessons learn and if one continues without learning the previous step things begin to crumble. I have been tutoring Prealgebra for 2 years and have many techniques and methods that help students see the world of math differently and make them excited to learn.

Reading

I like to help students become active thinkers when reading. I aim to teach students how to pick up clues in a passage that allows them to figure out the meaning in a passage. Reading and writing go hand-in-hand so working simultaneously with reading and writing helps them become an English scholar.
