I am a fun, funny, and encouraging hands on tutor. I will make learning fun, definitely!
I have been a "Big Sister" with Big Brothers Big Sisters Mentoring Program. For over 3 years I had an age 13-16 year old "little sister" in which I mentored. I truly enjoyed being involved with the program as it enriched the life of my Little, as well as my own.
I have been actively been involved with Costa Rica for 16 years, beginning when I was in the 4th grade. My family supported schools and needy kids while befriending the community. It was a life changing experience.
I have also studied abroad in Costa Rica, traveled throughout Europe, and graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 2007 with dual bachelor degrees in both Spanish (Costa Rica inspired) as well as in Communications. I also hold a certificate in business Spanish as well as in Social Media.
I have done work fora popular Tri-State Spanish Newspaper as well as Sales for La Seccion Amarilla, Spanish Yellow Pages. I completed a 5 week course with a Berlitz private tutor with a focus on Spanish medical terminology. For the past 3 years I was the Director of Marketing for a leading fast-casual restaurant franchise, reporting directly to our corporate offices and to the state franchisees.
In my free time I enjoy outdoor activities such as riding my bike and hiking in nature. I also enjoy working out, traveling, and spending time with my parents and grandparents.
I am 32 years old and I am bright, energetic, and educated not to mention reliable and responsible (very important tutor qualities). I would be a benefit to anyone who would like Spanish language knowledge (both written and verbal) as well as cultural knowledge and grammar.
Hope to hear from you.

My daughter was having a very hard time in her Spanish III honors class. We hired Jan to help her and to study for her final exam. Jan is very energetic and amazing with kids. My daughter was very happy and loved her energy which made Spanish fun for her. Jan began by going over the basics and starting from the beginning and working through all her work. My daughter learned more from Jan than she did with three years of Spanish in school. She went out of her way to send my daughter study guides and helpful guides to work on during the weekend. She definitely went above and beyond what I had expected from a tutor. Since beginning with Jan my daughter's grade has not dropped below an 88. Before being tutored with Jan, she was receiving C's and D's in the class. She has not only passed Spanish III honors class, but has learned so much with the help of Jan. Jan is what I wished Wake County Schools had more of, a wonderful energetic enthusiastic amazing teacher. I wished I had found Jan three years ago, but feel very fortunate to have found her when we needed her most. She is an amazing tutor and great person, she replies immediately and calls if she will be stuck in traffic or is sick, communication is fantastic. I highly recommend her to anyone who is struggling with Spanish or someone who just wants to learn Spanish. She has made a world of difference to my daughter and I am truly grateful for her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
