About Zander

Bio

I went to Woodinville High School and then went to California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) in San Luis Obispo. After finishing my B.S. in Computer Science in June of 2017 I came back to the greater Seattle area to pursue a career in software project management, which I do Monday - Friday (9-5:30) in Redmond. Aside from that and tutoring, I spend my time reading, lifting weights, riding mountain bikes, and playing guitar. I look forward to helping you with your academic goals.

I have worked as a math tutor/teacher for Best in Class Education Center for a year and then finished my degree in computer science.

I have worked with the following software and programming languages
*Eclipse, IntelliJ, BlueJay, Notepad++, jGrasp
*Virtual Machines
*Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Project)
*Java
*C
*Operating Systems: WIndows, OS X, Linux (Ubuntu, Fedora, CentOS, Minix)

I have a very open schedule and am open to any requests for tutoring, even outside of what I have listed here. Reach out to me for your, or your child's academic needs - whether they are to catch up, get ahead, more thoroughly understand lessons, prepare for exams, learn new skills, or just to explore a new hobby or subject for fun!

Computer

Computer Engineering,

Computer Engineering

I have a B.S. in Computer Science, and of the main courses involved in my curriculum, most of them were required for the Computer Engineering degree as well, in fact the first two years are almost identical. Other than that I have built two PCs individually, and installed all the necessary software for them to run, including multiple operating systems. My coursework involved programming, computer architecture and organization, and algorithms and design.
Computer Gaming,

Computer Gaming

During my formal education at Cal Poly, I completed courses in interactive engineering (game building), user experience, game design, and a two-course series that involved engineering a single, significantly-sized, desktop computer game. In addition, I also competed in a Hackathon (coding and design competition) where I designed, built and pitched a game in 12 hours (I deployed this game to a website so the entire audience could play it). I also have played some games and am familiar with some gaming culture.
Computer Science,

Computer Science

I have a B.S. degree in Computer Science from Cal Poly. During my collegiate career I took courses in computer organization and architecture, systems programming, design and analysis of algorithms, software engineering life-cycle and practices, and mobile application, game, and compiler design and development. In addition I have also taken a calculus series, linear algebra/analysis and discrete mathematics and proofs to help support the writing of software. I am familiar with a variety of operating systems (Windows, OS X, Linux), languages (C, Java, JavaScript, Android Platform, Racket), and computer software (Eclipse, Git, Virtual Machines, Unreal Engine, Android Studio).
Java,

Java

BS in Computer Science from Cal Poly. Majority of coursework in Java. Also use Java from time to time at my full time position. I have helped many college students with Java over the last few years.
Microsoft Windows,

Microsoft Windows

I recently completed a B.S. degree in computer science from Cal Poly. In addition to that, I have used Windows operating systems since I can even remember, having grown up with a father working for Microsoft. I have built two computers from the ground up running Windows 7, both of which I have now upgraded to Windows 10. I have also used all the mobile Windows devices from Windows Phone 6, 7, 8, 8.1 and now 10. During my time in college I have also helped repair, mostly by way of reinstalling the Windows operating system on my own and friends' and family's computers. I am familiar with how to operate, update, install and utilize the Windows operating systems, as well as the file directories they use and the software they come with.

Guitar

I got my first guitar when I was ten, in the year 2000, and mostly just messed around with it, until 2 years later when I started to get serious about it. I learned to play my favorite songs, and some basic chords and was quickly writing and performing my own songs. I eventually formed a little rock band in junior high and high school and took two semesters of guitar in high school. I still play open mics by myself from time to time and have now been playing guitar for over 15 years.

Knowledgeable and efficient

Filled in all the gaps in knowledge for Java I formerly had with concise explanation and was fairly patient while doing so. Would recommend to Computer Science students of all levels.

Has a great understanding of math! Very knowledgeable.

Zander was great. He really understands math & works hard to make sure the student is understanding. He was on time and you can tell he really cares about his students.

Exactly What I Needed

Zander has been instrumental in helping me understand the fundamentals of Java. He is formally trained and a recent college graduate, which makes his knowledge current and relevant. He was well-prepared for the tutoring session and was essential in helping me understand important concepts. He is emotionally intelligent in addition to being book-smart, which makes him exceptional to work with. I highly recommend Zander to anyone considering a tutor.

Articulate and Thoughtful

My daughter, a high school freshman, was very impressed with her session with Zander. She said many times after 'he's really smart, and nice'. She left feeling calmer and more in control of the information. That piece of confidence and comfort for students is huge. As a parent, it is also huge. Seeing her not frustrated was a win for me. I appreciated how he communicated, and he even followed up to check in on her prior to a test they were prepping for. I would recommend Zander, and while I hope she doesn't need him again, if she does, he will be our first call!
