Gonzaga University (Mathematics)
I am originally from Bellevue, Washington, and I am a student at Gonzaga University who just finished my sophomore year. I am in the process of majoring in mathematics, minoring in leadership studies, as well as receiving a teaching certification in secondary education. I plan to be a high school math teacher because I love the subject and I believe I can effectively teach math. My junior year of high school, I had an internship in a second grade classroom, where I was able to work one-on-one with the students as well as teach lessons to the whole class. This internship was part of a class I took called Teaching Academy, where I learned the basics of teaching.
In high school, I had some experience with tutoring math. As a future teacher, I want to get more experience with working with students, and I feel confident that I can help students succeed in math. I know math can be a challenge for a lot of people, and my goal is to present the content in a clear and simple way to help the student understand it better.
As a college student, high school level math (geometry, algebra 1 & 2, precalculus, and calculus) is very fresh in my mind. I have 2 years of calculus under my belt, and I feel very confident with the material. This past year, I had a field experience where I was able to teach twice a week in a 7th grade math class. I worked in a middle school homework center twice a week and a high school homework center once a week. Math has always been my favorite subject, and while I haven't worked with some of the concepts for a few years, I can easily recall them.
I am home in Bellevue for the summer and am looking to tutor in the area. I am originally from Bellevue, Washington, and I am a student at Gonzaga University who just finished my sophomore year. Rachel is amazing. I have spent over $1,00 on another tutoring company learning to tutor my son in Algebra 2 with horrible results. In 3 tutoring sessions Rachel has gotten my son back on track. She tutors like a 1 on 1 teacher, and she has gotten my son to pay attention and do his work. I'm so sorry she is leaving to go back to school (she is studying to be a math teacher) but she is already highly regarded by my family. I will reach out to her every time we need help with math.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
