About Danny

I have been a math and computer science tutor since 2009 and have worked with over 100 students individually. My students range from elementary school to high school seniors. I tailor each lesson to the student's needs and current abilities, helping them to understand the concepts as well as providing homework assistance and test preparation including standardized tests such as the SAT (Math), SAT Subject (Math Level I and II), ACT (Math and Science), and AP (Calculus and Computer Science).

I have also coached over 100 students in math team competitions such as the Washington State Mathematics Council (WSMC) Math Olympiad, Math Is Cool, MATHCOUNTS, and the Washington State Math Championship (Blaine), as well as individual competitions such as AMC 8 and 10 with a high degree of success. I was the chairperson of the WSMC Math Olympiad program at our local elementary school from 2009 to 2012, and led a group of over 150 four and fifth-grade students during the three-year period. I was responsible for academic and administrative tasks including conducting weekly study sessions, which an average of 30 students typically attended, as well as managing team registrations and timely communication with the parents. During my tenure and involvement, our teams participated in five competitions (2010 to 2014) and won an unprecedented 42 awards. I also led fourteen students from 2014 to 2017 to prepare for the AMC 8 competition of which eight students won awards for earning one of the top three scores at their test center, which a minimum of 30 students typically attend per location. Since 2016, I have been the chair of the middle school math competitions program at Eastside Catholic School in Sammamish where I coordinate and coach students for AMC 8, Math Is Cool, MATHCOUNTS and Math Olympiad. In my first year of the program, both my 6th grade and 7th grade Math Is Cool teams placed in the top 20% of Washington state and were invited to compete in the state masters competition.

I have a great passion for teaching and discovered my love of working with students when I was in college. I take pride and find it very rewarding to help students succeed in understanding the depth of complex topics, and show them how they are applied in real-world situations. In addition to the topics that I teach during our sessions, I can provide the students with customized problem sets to work on in order to allow them to practice the concepts they were taught.

My subjects include:

Elementary school concepts including, but not limited to, arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division), fractions and decimals

Middle school courses including Prealgebra and Algebra 1

High school courses including Geometry, Algebra 2, Precalculus and Calculus. Concepts such as mathematical proofs, trigonometry, logarithms, and probability and statistics.

SAT Math, and ACT Math and Science

Math competitions including Math Olympiad (grades 5 to 8), Math Is Cool (grades 4 to high school), Washington State Math Championship (grades 5 to 8), MATHCOUNTS (grades 6 to 8), AMC 8 and AMC 10

Computer science concepts, and programming in C, C++ and Java

I specialize in helping your students enhance their problem solving skills by providing efficient strategies and techniques that help them understand and apply the concepts learned. Students will not taught to just memorize formulas without understanding the logic and meaning beneath the calculations and how they link back to the underlying concepts.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Linear Algebra

I have taught numerous students how to solve systems of linear equations that involve three or more variables and equations using matrices. I also taught students how to add, subtract and multiply matrices, calculate its determinant and use it in Cramer's rule. In addition, I have taught students how to figure out the inverse of a matrix as well illustrate scenarios of when the identity matrix applies.

Logic

I have taught many students the concepts and applications of mathematical logic. Topics include, but are not limited to, truth tables and Venn diagrams which I've applied to solving word problems that involve building a two-dimensional table and by the process of elimination determine which situations are and are not possible. I've also taught students set theory including intersection and union.

Precalculus

I have tutored over a dozen students in Precalculus and covered topics including, but not limited to, trigonometric identities and graphs, the unit circle, polar coordinates, vectors, and complex numbers.

Danny helped my senior with precal, she had an at home re-take due the next day. He logged into her online text and reviewed the associated chapters and pages. He reviewed a copy of her test and provided notes for her the day before he tutored her. We'd gone thru 3 previous tutors with not much success. This first session, she really felt like he clearly explained the concepts in a way that made s
