Welcome to my profile! You can call me Alex :) I am a full-time professional for one of the employers in the Seattle area, a native Mandarin speaker, and I got a master's degree in economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I am looking for tutoring opportunities in the following areas:
1, the language Mandarin. Being a native Mandarin speaker means I know everything about the language: writing, speaking, listening, reading, grammar, vocab, composition, tones, you name it. I've also got experience translating a book in English to Chinese, so, I'm fairly confident in it. Whether you need to practice speaking/listening with someone, or you need some assistance with homework, or you want to learn the Chinese language from the very beginning, or even you want to learn how to sing a Mandarin song, just let me know!
2, being an economics graduate, my math skill is above average. Throughout the years at school I've practiced tons of math questions, including calculus, linear algebra, probability, statistics, differential equations, all the high school-level and college-level math you can think of. I can tutor any of the above mentioned, or any lower level math subject.
3, SQL, or Structured Query Language. I've been a data analyst in various capacity throughout my career, and sql is the database language that I use everyday. Whether you need a crash course on sql, a brief walk-through of how the language works, a lesson on the concept of relation database, or you need someone to test your sql skill, just let me know!
Seeing my students successfully master a subject is a joy to me. I love seeing my students succeed! I am tutoring because I believe through sharing my knowledge of the above areas, I can help people succeed in their life/career, and that makes me feel very proud!
So again, if you need someone to help you in the above areas, please do not hesitate to contact me. I will respond to you as soon as possible! Hope to get to know you soon! Hi students/parents!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Master of Science in Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. As you know, economics is a math-heavy major, and I've got coursework such as calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, and others that are very advanced. I've gone through thousands, if not tens of thousands of math questions throughout my years in school. I did algebra almost everyday while in grad school. Now that I've finished school and got years into working, and I see people struggling with math, so I ask myself: Why not help them with the knowledge I have?
I believe a good tutor is the person that shows you the door, but you have to walk the walk yourself. Hence, when it comes to my teaching method, I emphasize understanding what the numbers or equations represent, what is the core idea of the topic or the question, what is the best way to think about it, and how to get to the desired result by either practicing or solving it. I will do my best to help you, but I will not just tell you the answer. It is the process, rather than the solution, that teaches you the most!
In conclusion, if you are looking for someone to explain the math to you rather than just giving you the answer, if you are willing to put in the extra effort to master the material rather than just passing a quiz, than it is my great honor to help you!
I am bilingual in English and Mandarin Chinese. My family left for Taiwan when I was a kid. I then attended elementary and high school in Taiwan, which is about 15 years. Then I did my undergrad in Beijing, China, which is four years. So, I have been speaking Mandarin as my first language for almost 20 years. Plus, because of my experience in both China and Taiwan, I can read and write both traditional and simplified Chinese very fluently. I've also got exposure to different accents and different culture across multiple regions. I came back to the US after college, and have been living in Champaign, IL, New York City, and now Bellevue, WA.
I've seen people struggling with learning Mandarin and I believe I can be the person that help them achieve their goal. Whether you need someone to go over the materials from a course, someone to make conversation with in Mandarin, someone to correct your grammar in speaking or writing, or even you want to learn about the Chinese pop music, I can help!
I have a Master of Science in Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I graduated with a GPA of 3.60. Courses I took are mainly in two areas: economics and mathematics. The economics courses I took include micro- and macro-economics, monetary theory, international economics, and econometrics. The math courses I took include statistics and probability, differential equations, time series analysis, regression analysis, and categorical data analysis. I graduated in 2010, diploma available upon request.
I have been using SQL for 4 years, almost everyday in my job. I have been a data analyst in all of my roles, and SQL is the language that I am most familiar with. I have extensive hands-on knowledge of most SQL functions such as substr, cast, concatenate, case, also knowledge on joins: left join, right join, inner joins, and sub-query. I've got experience working on most major database platforms: Teradata, Oracle, and MS Server. I am fairly confident to say I know the ins and outs of SQL and relational database.
