About Andy

I obtained a 720 in SAT Math since 2009, in the top 12% for the DukeTIP program qualifications, took the AP Calculus test and scored a 5, and have designed my own science project relating to math. I obtained a 690 on SAT Biology during my high school years, taken biology and physics courses in college and have a cumulative GPA of 3.9 from science courses at Austin Community College, and have done science fair researches at the University of Texas at Austin Cockrell School of Engineering and School of Natural Science

I have a cumulative GPA of 3.8 for all psychology courses, including social psychology in Austin Community College and obtained an Associate's Degree in General Studies, but have taken courses in childhood development, human development, and holistic early childhood education with a cumulative GPA of 3.6.

I am continuing my education at the Evergreen State College and continue to tutor and educate high school and middle school students through agencies in Olympia.

The students I tutor gain a much more lucid understanding of the subject and can spot the relationship between what they learn and their own prior knowledge, which resulted in less questions to be asked on their end and more effective application of their own knowledge. Students have scored higher in their classroom exams by 30 points and are more confident in doing their own homeworks.

These are some of the accomplishments I have throughout my two years of tutoring experience. However, the most important element I want to offer you is my own tutoring techniques.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary Math

I have 2 years of experience in teaching and tutoring children in an afterschool care program, both in Austin and in Boulder, where I tutor young children biology, math, environmental science, and wilderness education. The result of some of my tutoring philosophy is that the children have a more competent understanding of nature, have a better appreciation for their environment, and their math skills increased substantially afterwards.

Reading

I guided student's learning in reading for after school care settings for 2 years. I've been tutoring students on taking notes and making inferences in reading materials for high school and middle school students on online tutoring platform for 1 year.

SAT Math

I scored a 720 on SAT Math along with a 720 on the Subject test for Math.

Study Skills

I tutored and taught children in preschool, elementary, middle and high school for 2-3 years at both afterschool cares, educational interns at a preschool setting. I have mentored for 1 year at another online mentoring platform for high school and middle school students on practical study skills for Math, Science, History, and English. Currently, I am working on obtaining Bachelor's Degree in Education and Environmental Education at the Evergreen State College by 2018. I tutor using the systems theory and the whole person approach, have experience in teaching preschool and higher grade school students at alternative education schools setting.

Vietnamese

I have work study experience in translating Vietnamese for the books written in Doug Schuler's program at the Evergreen State College, along with writing blogs in both English and Vietnamese on college professor's website.
