Taught at Brady High School, West St. Paul, MN, for 17 years. Increased my field business experience for more than 35 years after that as a federal investigator and continue my business experience through operating an organic farm with considerable in barnyard animal residents on Bainbridge Island today. The work experience I've gained over the years enhances the value of my teaching since I've been able to apply and expand my law, accounting, advertising, marketing, computer, personnel, farming, animal husbandry, presentation, writing, florestry, commercial baking/cooking, wedding, B&B operation skills to a very broad spectrum of business operations in my own personal business I employ at least one potentially new farmer annually who has the opportunity to be hands on in an organic farm with animals so have continued direct experience in the field of teaching with these young people as well as all the B&B guests and event venue activities that take place on my private, working farm.
I enjoy people of all ages, enjoy sharing valuable knowledge, encourage interns and visitors to expand their knowledge, expend considerable in time educating people through quality discussions and hands on experience, set an example of the impact a single, senior person can have even on the various age groups on and off the farm. Set an example for the value of educating oneself, speaking out on behalf of organic farming and protecting the environment, of operating within the legal guidelines to improve change, utilizing the best in organic food for healthy living, and anything else including the many crafts I dabble in for enjoyment and monetary reward. Remain positive regardless of the outcomes and show that as individuals we can make a positive impact. Show the great advantage we have today through the operation of the internet to help us with research, obtaining knowledge, and communication.
I model what I teach in every aspect whether business, teaching, farming, crafts, cooking/baking, writing, communication, event venue. I enjoy life, people, animals--both barnyard and domestic--challenging the system in a legal manner, using time wisely, working long hours, learning as much as possible, broad reading, always taking time to communicate with people especially for encouraging positive change, supporting that as private individuals regardless of age we can and do make a difference. I have fun and people don't miss that--it's infectious. I haven't taught for over 30 years and my ex-students from 40 - 50 years ago still get in touch with me, join me on the farm, send me notes, and so I get sufficient feedback about the impact a good teacher can have on youth both then and today with the many new farmers I help develop through my intern training program on the farm today. It invigorates me and keeps me positive about the changes we all have an opportunity to accomplish.
I know people. After 20 years of teaching on average 180 senior high students on a daily basis, I can judge people. In my federal investigator position it was a great advantage in working with people from all walks of life and judging who were credible and who weren't. My knowledge of the law even as a non-attorney, assists me protect my business and sets an example for all ages of what a single person can do. I can operate all aspects of my business whether accounting, investing, banking, advertising, photographing, constructing, tractor operation, developing and expanding on my own. That range sets an example for people to witness what we as individuals are able to accomplish on our own. I'm high energy, enthusiastic, creative, challenging, risk taking, tolerant, hands on, fast paced, patient, experienced so have considerable to offer and share and most people don't miss those qualities.
I'm creative and have taught a wide range of ability groups so many times can assist people with many ways to learn. I'm patient and tolerant so students benefit from these qualities. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam.
