After working for several years as a Registered Nurse, I decided to use my knowledge of anatomy, physiology, cell biology, genetics, and chemistry to become a Science teacher. I started out teaching high school students Biology and Ocean Ecology. I then taught middle school Science for several years. My last full-time teaching position was at a private school where I taught 4th grade Math and 4th and 5th grade Science. My tutoring experience is in elementary Math and Science.
I am an outdoor-loving person and an artist. I love to hike and take photos of fungi and banana slugs! I have hiked to the top of Mt. Whitney and been to below sea level in Death Valley.
I love tutoring to assist my students in mastering factual information, processes, and abstract concepts. I strive to inspire them to have the confidence to try something new and know that they can problem solve and practice in order to master the subject or the task. I want my students to know they can say "I don't know." If you know everything , you miss out on the wonder and sense of accomplishment that learning provides. So let's get started!
I struggled with Math as a student starting in high school and I had to work hard to complete my Math studies, including and ending with Calculus in college. Thus, I believe I understand the feeling of dread and lack of confidence that many students feel when it comes to Math. My goal is to lead students to gain in knowledge and self-confidence in approaching their Math studies. I have taught elementary Math and tutored in elementary Math and high school Geometry.
My studies to become a Registered Nurse gave me a solid knowledge base of Anatomy and Physiology with the added bonus of the actual practical application of the knowledge. Earning a BA in biology opened up a whole new world of life and the environment in which life on our planet exists.
If you are a student, or the parent of a student who is unsure of how to approach learning and gain confidence in a subject matter, I would love the opportunity to work with you. One of my students started out hating science and through her effort and my expertise, it became her favorite subject. Let's talk and make a plan for success.
