The best part of teaching is getting to share my love of science with students, and see them get excited about it! I have a PhD in integrative biology and work as a marine biologist/mammalogist. I have published in scientific journals and presented at international scientific conferences. Throughout my career, I have continued to teach as an adjunct and tutor. I also taught at a charter high school for 2.5 years serving 10th-12th grade. With my experiences conducting research in the field and the lab, I bring a unique perspective that helps students relate to many scientific topics, and lets them see how science is done outside of the classroom.
My teaching experience includes a variety of science classes: biology, environmental science, ecology, anatomy, marine biology and chemistry. I can help your student with any level of biological science class (elementary to college) and chemistry (middle school to college chemistry 1 and 2). Science can be challenging, but also fun. Incorporating both of these aspects into the tutoring sessions helps keep students engaged and wanting to learn more. Students will be given tasks each week to complete between sessions that will help them master the material and strengthen their study skills (which can help in other subject areas as well).
In addition to science, I have played the clarinet for 25 years. I was principal clarinet in college and in various community bands and orchestras and was selected for many honor/all-state bands/orchestras in high school. I have also played semi-professionally with various groups in Florida. Music is a wonderful gift and I love to help students develop their skills. Each week students will have specific pieces and skills to work on in between sessions. During each lesson we will work hard, but also have time to just jam - playing duets or other fun pieces.
I have a 24 hr cancellation policy, but will work with the student to schedule a make up class (usually within 2 weeks of the missed class). I am happy to trav
