My undergraduate degree was in elementary education and Spanish. Next I took two calculus classes to improve my math knowledge. My graduate degree was Planning and Administration. In the early 2000's I enrolled as one of the first students in the Vermont Mathematics Initiative. The purpose of this program was to help teachers become well versed in mathematics and bring this knowledge back to their schools. Many of my teaching techniques began to evolve as I realized students needed to work together and share their own learning styles with their classmates.
Throughout the many years of teaching math, algebra and geometry, During my career, I taught mathematics to middle school students, including the algebra class. Then after retiring I went on to long term substitute jobs teaching Algebra and Geometry at the high school level. What I enjoyed the most was watching students grasp a concept in mathematics and make it their own. I tried retiring, but then realized I still had a lot to offer so I started tutoring neighborhood children, as I had tutored earlier in my career. Recently I received a letter from a former student in graduate school thanking me for helping him to understand and then excel in mathematics. Now that I am retired, I would like to continue working with students and help them find the style that works for them so they can finally feel confident with mathematics. and improve their mastery levels, as well as their grades.
I have taught Algebra 1 and Common Core mathematics to Grades 6, 7 and 8. In addition I taught Algebra 1 and Geometry at the high school level. In addition, I was a fourth grade teacher which also encompassed mathematics classes to many levels of students. I was one of the first members and participated in the Vermont Mathematics Initiative, a master's degree program helping teachers become well versed in mathematics from basics to calculus.
As a tutor, I have worked with many students from second grade to high school.
If you are looking for a master teacher who can help you understand mathematics, then please let me help you improve your ability in mathematics which leads to better grades. I am well versed in the Common Core Standards, and have a lot of experience with Algebra 1, and some with Geometry.
