In the early 2000's I enrolled as one of the first students in the Vermont Mathematics Initiative. The purpose of this program was to help teachers become well versed in mathematics and bring this knowledge back to their schools. Many of my teaching techniques began to evolve as I realized students needed to work together and share their own learning styles with their classmates.

Throughout the many years of teaching math, algebra and geometry, During my career, I taught mathematics to middle school students, including the algebra class. Then after retiring I went on to long term substitute jobs teaching Algebra and Geometry at the high school level. What I enjoyed the most was watching students grasp a concept in mathematics and make it their own. I tried retiring, but then realized I still had a lot to offer so I started tutoring neighborhood children, as I had tutored earlier in my career. Recently I received a letter from a former student in graduate school thanking me for helping him to understand and then excel in mathematics. Now that I am retired, I would like to continue working with students and help them find the style that works for them so they can finally feel confident with mathematics. and improve their mastery levels, as well as their grades.

I have taught Algebra 1 and Common Core mathematics to Grades 6, 7 and 8. In addition I taught Algebra 1 and Geometry at the high school level. In addition, I was a fourth grade teacher which also encompassed mathematics classes to many levels of students. I was one of the first members and participated in the Vermont Mathematics Initiative, a master's degree program helping teachers become well versed in mathematics from basics to calculus.

As a tutor, I have worked with many students from second grade to high school.

If you are looking for a master teacher who can help you understand mathematics, then please let me help you improve your ability in mathematics which leads to better grades. I am well versed in the Common Core Standards, and have a lot of experience with Algebra 1, and some with Geometry. In addition, I have tutored students for the mathematics sections of the SAT and ACT.

I was a member of Vermont Mathematics Initiative where we delved into the common core standards and learned how to teach these to our students to grasp the concepts in a way that makes sense to them. During the many courses that I took, I leaned how to take a concept in mathematics from the beginning through calculus. Throughout this time my knowledge of the common core standards became deeper and I thoroughly became versed in the importance of these standards, and different methods to apply my knowledge with all students.

My undergraduate degree was in Elementary Education and Spanish. At first I taught fifth and sixth grades for five, then fourth grade for five years. After returning to UVM to take Calculus and Business Calculus I was certified to teach middle school mathematics and algebra. I taught seventh and eighth grade math and algebra at Edmunds Middle School for 28 years. During this time I obtained my Master;s Degree in Administration. Next I became a member of the first class of Vermont Mathematics Initiative at the University of Vermont. I chose not to get a second Master's Degree but did do the course requirements with A's. This degree was centered on elementary mathematics to insure elementary teachers were versed in all topics related to mathematics. After retiring, I was a math long term substitute at both the elementary, middle and secondary levels. During my career, I was known for how well my students did after taking algebra with me. While teaching at the high school, I taught mathematics, algebra and geometry.
