I am a junior Mechanical Engineering major at the University of Maryland, College Park. Ever since high school I have been working with peers and younger students in areas where they have struggled. In high school I worked with students ranging from 2nd to 10th grade in a nearby Saturday school program. I also did a lot of mentoring within my school. To continue my passion for education, after my first year at University of Maryland, I worked as a mathematics mentor to students taking summer classes at University of Maryland. I helped in math courses from Geometry to Calculus II.
This past school year I have been tutoring at Charles Carroll Middle School which has definitely been a learning experience for me. I have learned a lot about tutoring and the difficulties students face while learning. I love being able to help students learn new material but also being able to simply help students conquer anxiety they may have in certain subject areas that keeps them from excelling in that subject.
The most important thing that I have learned in all of my years of tutoring is that every student is different and so every student must be tutored differently, which is why tutoring never gets boring.
Thank you for your time and I hope to hear from you soon!
