Hello, I'm Gary. I have a Ph.D. in Physiology and Cell Biology, and I have a passion for tutoring/teaching physiology, anatomy, and biology. Through my experience, I have developed the ability to understand where confusion arises in all biological concepts. The key to effective tutoring is to make sure that the student is directing the lesson. Everyone learns in a different way and it’s my goal to rapidly assess this and provide the best tailored approach so that the student gets the most out of our time together. The student controls the lesson, for maximum effectiveness. This can entail focusing on answering specific questions or doing a full lesson on any topic that the student requests. I have developed unique and very effective approaches to many of the more difficult concepts within physiology. Currently, I teach Anatomy & Physiology and Human Biology at the Community College of Vermont in St. Albans, VT.

I have over 13 years of experience tutoring/teaching these subjects in five different colleges in California & Vermont. I have also taught for a non-profit STEM education organization called Science from Scientists (based in Boston, MA). This organization sends charismatic scientist/instructors into elementary schools to teach hands-on science modules to 4th-8th grade students to spur their interest in science (includes all sciences, physics-biology & engineering).

I want to encourage students to contact me to solve any problem they are having with physiology or biology. I am easy to reach, and my schedule is always open. I will always provide a fast response to any request. I am also available for in-person tutoring. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. Thank you for your time!

Biology

I have tutored/taught basic biology to 4th -8th grade elementary school students for the Science from Scientists organization based in Boston, MA. This organization sends charismatic scientist/instructors into elementary schools to teach hands-on science modules to 4th-8th grade students to spur their interest in science. I successfully taught ecology (owls, populations, camouflage & mimicry), earth science (rock cycle, seismic waves, tectonics, topographic maps), basic physics (energy, gravity, mass, weight, density), basic engineering (simple machines, stress & strain, circuits), solar system, fossils, infectious disease, weather, photosynthesis, and plant structure & function.

Science

Anatomy,

Anatomy

I have 13+ years of teaching Anatomy & Physiology to undergraduate students. Even though my degree was not in Anatomy, I have accumulated extensive anatomical information through my teaching experience. A basic tenet of all biology is that structure dictates function, so being a body function expert (physiologist) I must also be an anatomical expert as one cannot be a function expert without being an anatomical expert at the same time.

Physiology

I have 14+ years of experience successfully tutoring & teaching physiology, anatomy, and biology to students of all backgrounds, from the ages of 18-60 yrs. I was a research scientist for 15 years and did state-of-the-art physiology research at Johnson & Johnson, the pharmaceutical company. I have published a number of research articles in well respected scientific journals.

Patient and extremely knowledgeable

I am very glad that I picked Gary to be my tutor. He is extremely knowledgeable, extremely patient, and explains physiological concepts in understandable ways. He is a great teacher and he is also very kind. A+ for Gary!

Fred, 1 lesson with Gary

Knowledgeable and patient

Mr. Gary is extremely patient on our first lesson I had some difficulty in accessing Wyzant he talked me through the whole process on how to sign in and use Wyzant. Mr. Gary is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to anatomy and physiology. I was able to get an A on my exam after two lessons. I will definitely be using his service again.
