I have 11 years of experience in the field of education; 10 in the classroom and 1 teaching privately. I have been tutoring full time on Wyzant for the 8 months and have found my true love. During this time, I have clocked over 300 hours with secondary and post-secondary students across the country. A typical day of mine could start with reading Chaucer over coffee, helping with college application over iced tea, and end by proofreading a graduate psychology paper over hot chocolate. I am flexible, knowledgeable, and an expert in my area; I believe that my ratings and reviews speak for themselves. I have also served as an AP Curriculum Writer and AP reader for the College Board.

A few highlights from my Spring/Summer work in 2019 are coaching students in the following AP courses: 14 students in AP Language and Composition, 4 students in AP Literature and Composition, 1 student in AP World History, and 1 student in AP Seminar.

I helped prepare students for standardized tests including: 4 students in SAT Literature Subject Test, 11 SAT, 6 ACT.

I served as a tutor for two undergraduate students in 4 humanities courses. I also worked as a proofreader and tutor for 2 graduate students (1 in Media Communications and 1 in Psychology). I assisted with 2 graduate school applications (MA Statistics, MBA).

I wrote a homeschool curriculum for both AP Lang and Lit courses and prepared an advanced high school student for CTY (Center for Talented Youth) course on Race and Politics at Princeton University.

My classroom experience includes Pre-K (1 year), Grades 4-6 and Adult ESOL Chinese/English (2 years), Grade 9 English Language Arts (5 years), Grade 10 English Language Arts (5 years), Grade 11 American Literature (5 years), Grade 12 British Literature (5 years), AP English Language and Composition (6 years), and AP Literature and Composition (6 years). Certification: I hold an 8-12 English Language Arts Certificate in Texas, California, and New York.

My areas of specialty are research skills and writing, poetry and prose analysis, analytical writing, rhetorical analysis, expository writing, remedial grammar instruction, remedial reading instruction, SAT/ACT/PSAT test prep, resume and cover letter construction, speech and debate coaching and college application assistance.

Amazing tutor!

Jillian assisted my high school children with AP English Language reading comprehension and essays for the last several weeks. Her tutoring session was excellent and far exceeded what we expected. She was well prepared and had all her resources readily available. Her explanations put both students at ease. If any given topic was difficult for the children to understand in reading comprehension, she immediately went to a different approach and in each case they were able to pick up with an absolute 100% comprehension level. In writing, Jillian made suggestions as to what should be corrected, how it should be corrected, and why. She was careful not to just fix the essays but rather to make sure they understood why she was making corrections. When the tutoring session was completed, the children themselves were surprised that they were able to master the topics with little or no difficulty. Her assistance proved invaluable in school and both the children and we thank her for a job far better than well-done. I would definitely recommend her to others.
