I have been preparing student teachers for the past 25 years, and in doing so have discovered that each and every lesson is a challenging journey for both the student and the teacher. Content knowledge is especially important for test and college preparation, however, developing a thirst and enthusiasm for learning is crucial in terms of our future generations in a shrinking world with expanding technologies.
I am a historian at heart, with a flair for sociology and philosophy, and additional expertise in anatomy and physiology and the full spectrum of sports and recreational activities. My teaching style is very interactive with problems, projects, and scenarios used extensively to allow students the chance to apply content knowledge to real world events and issues. I also have experience in test preparation methods, particularly for the Praxis series, but would relish the challenge of SAT and GRE tests.
I tend to establish homework schedules with regular students and request feedback from all parties in order to continually evaluate my teaching effectiveness. While I have a 24-hour cancellation policy, I try to be flexible with my time and can offer make-up classes in many circumstances.
I look forward to meeting you to enable your academic success and future growth. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I hold a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, a Master of Science degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation, and industry qualifications as a Gymnasium Instructor and Advanced Gymnasium Instructor (GP Referrals). The latter qualification permits me to assess and prescribe exercise programs for special populations (e.g., cardiac rehab, obesity, elderly, injured). I also have many years' experience of preparing athletes for in-season competition.
I have 19 years of experience in directing teacher preparation programs in Physical Education teacher licensure, have served on a statewide Praxis Review Panel, and created and taught a college course titled "Praxis and Portfolio Preparation" for three years.
I have been teaching PE and coaching soccer for the past 34 years. I have coached men and women at the college level (NCAA DIII), High School Boys Varsity, JV and Middle School teams, an Olympic Development squad, and recreational club soccer with U10-U18 age groups. I hold an English Football Association coaching badge, and have many years experience of directing and coaching summer soccer camps.
I have been a PE teacher for 34 years and have coached Men's Tennis at the collegiate level (NCAA DIII) for 4 years, during which I was named conference coach of the year on 3 occasions.
