I love tutoring! I thoroughly enjoy helping others to learn new things or to have a better understanding of some topic. It is such a joy when I'm tutoring & my student all of a sudden understands a concept & the 'light bulb goes on!' Many times I've had students tell me that they never were taught that way before or never had anyone explain it to them that way. I use a variety of methods, depending on the learning style of each individual student. Most of my teaching is very hands-on. I homeschooled all 4 of my children all the way through high school. I have taught, tutored, & subbed at schools for over a decade.
I am available for tutoring in a wide range of topics. I specialize in math & computer skills (Microsoft programs & Adobe design), but am also proficient in many other areas. Please let me know if you have any questions whatsoever! I love tutoring! I thoroughly enjoy helping others to learn new things or to have a better understanding of some topic. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, along with degrees in Digital Media & Website Design. Adobe InDesign was one of the required classes, in which I achieved an A. I was also the Project Manager for a semester long project for an actual client. I supervised my classmates in creating a 35-40 page program book. As the supervisor, I not only oversaw the work, but corrected & helped my classmates to create top notch, professional looking work. I did all the layout of articles, images, & ads; & one of the article spreads. Also, I am sure my teacher would recommend my work & teaching abilities!
I am currently the teacher of a Chess Club at an area school and was last year also. This encompasses grades K - 8. I teach chess using a lesson board, worksheets, scenarios to solve, websites for practice, and of course games amongst themselves and with me. I start students off by learning names and starting locations of all pieces, which we review and practice often. We then advance to the moves of each individual piece. I also encourage good sportsmanship for both players, to be a good winner and a good loser.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design and an Associate's in Digital Media. I create and maintain websites. I also teach Website Design classes. I teach HTML and WYSIWYG, both in text edit and Dreamweaver.
I homeschooled my own four children from K - 12th. I have been a substitute teacher and tutor for all of the Caledonia North Supervisory Union schools for over 10 years. I am proficient in all elementary subjects. I am a very patient tutor and use many hands-on manipulatives in my teaching. I thoroughly enjoy tutoring children of all ages!
I have been a math tutor for K - 8, for over a decade. I like to use manipulatives, such as Learning Wrap-Ups, Think-It-Thru Tiles, Pattern Blocks, etc., and learning games, such as Fruit Salad and Giant Dice, etc. I believe strongly in hands-on learning and in student-led learning. Instead of lecturing and telling a student how to do things, I'd rather guide them in discovering for themselves, the world around them and the math in everything!
I taught computer class for more than a decade, mostly with Microsoft Office programs. I have tutored adults & taught my own four kids how to use all of the MS Office programs. I worked as a technical assistant for five years where one of my main responsibilities was to maintain the database, which I also created. I regularly use the regular office programs, along with Adobe suite of programs too.
I worked for five years as a technical assistant. One of my main jobs was to maintain the database (MS Access), which I also created. I use databases often in my current different jobs. I regularly use spreadsheets, from a simple one to keep track of bills, to more complex to keep track of my jewelry business. I taught high school level computer class for more than a decade for all of the MS Office programs, including Excel. I have tutored adults and taught my own four kids how to use all of the MS Office programs. Knowledge of technology is essential and knowing how to create and use spreadsheets is a vital skill.
I taught Microsoft Office programs for 12 years in my Computer Skills class at the Community High School of Vermont. I have multiple computer related degrees. I have been a tutor for more than a decade, including computer skills, with all grade levels from elementary through adult. I also taught my own four kids through high school.
I regularly help students with their homework, often including reading skills. I love to tutor and help students not only learn to read, but also acquire a life-long love of reading!
I have tutored for test-taking for a variety of ages, including for SATs. I have tutored students for math from elementary through college. Math questions on the SAT can be daunting. I enjoy removing that intimidation by helping students understand what specifically the question is asking, and how to eliminate some of the multiple choices. I also help them with the actual math, but often the problems most students face with SAT Math questions is the intimidation, lack of understanding, or being overwhelmed with the choices. Helping students to conquer these obstacles is rewarding.
