I've recently graduated from Bowdoin College with a double-major in Physics and Philosophy. My studies in physics and close work with the academic staff have prepared me through coursework and hundreds of hours of tutoring and grading. My studies in philosophy have given me the experience necessary to assist students of all ages with reading, writing, and rhetoric.

I've been tutoring students and assisting teachers for several years now. My approach to helping students grasp new topics in math and physics is that of presenting the material in a way that can be understood intuitively. This means that diagrams, sketches, metaphors, and the like can be instrumental in approaching topics that are otherwise daunting. Take, for example, waves and wave-like phenomena; these can be understood by analyzing readily understood concepts like waves in water, sound waves, and the like. Similarly, we can understand that harmonic motion is represented by sinusoidal functions (sin, cos, etc) by imagining a paintbrush bobbing up and down on a wheeled cart traveling at constant speed; if we push the wheeled cart at a constant speed along a wall and let the paintbrush bob up and down while tracing its path on the wall, we will observe a sinusoidal function drawn on the wall.
My goal is to make math and physics intuitive, clear, and enjoyable.

Despite that many students find mathematics and physics scary and overwhelming, I believe that the right explanation can allow any student to tackle these subjects.

When it comes to writing, I can offer help in reviewing and editing papers, as well as in planning, outlining, and discussing the flow of your writing. I aim to help you put your ideas into the words that best represent those ideas. Whether you've just begun thinking about a paper or you're nearly complete, I can offer my assistance.

As for my experience, I've taught math and SAT prep at a 9-12 level and tutored college students in math and physics for five years now. I was a teaching assistant (TA) for the physics department at Bowdoin College and served as a writing and rhetoric peer-reviewer for our school's academic planning and assistance program.
