I have worked as a para educator at the Integrated Arts Academy at HO Wheeler School in Burlington for over 6 years. I provide have provided instruction to students in Grades K-5 including special ed students with a variety of learning and behavioral challenges and english language learners. I am familiar with common core and many literacy curricula in use in Burlington and surrounding school districts.
My particular strength is working with emerging readers and writers in K-2. I have helped many children overcome reading struggles by focusing on strengths and helping them master the core skills needed for success. I enjoy tapping into student interests and making lessons fun. My goal is not only to help kids learn the task at hand but to boost their confidence and cultivate a love for learning. I have a lot of training in arts integration and often use movement, visual arts, and drama to enhance my work with students.
I have been providing literacy instruction for over 6 years. I am skilled at teaching phonics, letter formation, and other core skills for emerging reader/writers. I am also able to work with kids on grammar and sentence construction, word work, the technical aspects of writing essays and the editing process.
I am in my 4th year of focusing on K-2 and am skilled at employing curricula such as Fundations, which focuses on handwriting and phonics. I have worked with many emergent reader/writers.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked for 6+ years as a para-educator at the Integrated Arts Academy at HO Wheeler School, which serves students in grades K-5. For three of those years I worked with students, individually and in groups, in all grade levels as a literacy instructor. For the past 3+ years I have been focusing on grades K-2. Currently I am a special education aide for a Kindergarten student with special needs. Prior to working at the IAA, I was a classroom volunteer in my sons' preschools and elementary school.
Over the past 6-7 years I worked with students, K-5, on their writing skills, including penmanship. I have used the Fundations curriculum with 1st and 2nd graders, as well as special ed and ELL students in higher grades. Fundations focuses both on the mechanical aspects of letter formation and phonics.
I have assisted students who have physical challenges by helping them develop fine motor strength and coordination. I have also incorporated movement and visual arts to assist with those learners.
