About Megan

Hi! My name is Megan, and I am a first year medical student at the University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine. I recently completed my undergraduate education at Washington University in St. Louis and earned bachelor's degrees in biochemistry and Classics.

Throughout college, I gained extensive experience teaching and tutoring by working as a teaching assistant and tutor for Washington University's chemistry and biology department and by volunteering as a tutor at a local middle school in St. Louis. During that time, I continued to work through Wyzant to help students in subjects ranging beyond the sciences, including SAT test prep, Latin, writing, and world history.

Even though I only graduated from college this past year, I believe that my youth actually affords me a significant advantage in helping middle, high school, and college students. I fully understand their social and academic stresses, having experienced and overcome such situations fairly recently, so I am in a strong position to help them succeed.

I am definitely a friendly and easygoing person, but when it comes to academics, I am completely serious and focused. Success has always been the goal for me, and I am determined to let that be a possibility for others. From my own experiences in school and in teaching others, I have learned that the best approach for each student is a holistic one. Different strategies work for different people, so I will always take the time to find the best teaching method for each person. To not do so would be a disservice to anyone who would come seeking my help.

Lastly, I just note that compassion and patience are among my strongest qualities, so you can be sure that I will never give up on a student. I will take as much time as is needed to help anyone succeed in his or her endeavors.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Latin

I've been studying Latin since the fifth grade and have exhausted my high school's class options in the language. As a senior, I ended up creating my own class in ancient Greek to supplement my learning in Latin.

I'm happy to help with anything from learning the very basics of Latin grammar and vocabulary to understanding the writings of Vergil and Cicero.

Good relationship with my son.

Megan spent time getting to know my son and listened to his viewpoint before beginning the first lesson which I believe put my son in a better frame of mind to progress. I am grateful to have found Megan via WyzAnt. She is perfect for our purposes and knowledgeable in the subject of Latin. I would recommend Megan for any subject area she is willing to tutor.
