About Marcella

I am a lifelong learner who is passionate about encouraging others to be the best they can be. I look forward to working with you to expand your horizons as you become more proficient in your desired area of tutoring.

I have an eclectic background, to include being a mother (I am compassionate and patient), a Navy veteran (have seen the world), a teacher (working with students from ASD to gifted), a respiratory therapist (CPR certified), as well as many years in customer service (you guide the tutoring experience with your expectations). I look forward to working with you.

I am very good with young children, and encourage them to grow to their potential. This is a time when they have enormous capacity to learn and I am observant while working to the student's strengths. I have an Associates of Science degree in Respiratory Therapy and continue to expand my knowledge. I am thorough and will prepare tirelessly to meet the needs of all students who I tutor.

While I haven't lived through most of history, I have lived through much of the latter part of the twentieth century which has given me the unique perspective that comes from many years of study. I am a history buff and have what might be mistaken for a library in my office, because I devour lessons about how we (as a country) relate to the world, our similarities and our differences. The changing complexion of our society as immigration and emigration on both a local and international level alters our society (be it family, neighborhood, city, state or country); I will seek to instill the curiosity I value, into your child which will carry them through a lifetime of learning.

You are my priority! I measure my success through your success and will help you to become motivated to excel. You and I will make an awesome team in ensuring that your future is bright.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

American History

I have a minor in history and earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.88 (for history courses my GPA was 4.0 on a 4 point scale). I took every history course offered (a plethora which included: US History I and II, Civil War, Reconstruction, Civil Rights Movement, Vietnam, Women in American History, The Birth of a Nation, Founding Fathers, Literature's Role in US History, Understanding the Constitution, Bill of Rights and the Amendments, The Making of Modern America, of which I still have the text books, to refer back to. I still open these books because they are rich in concepts and provide valuable insight.

Anatomy

This is a subject which I studied while working toward my Associate's of Science degree in Respiratory Therapy and I have continued to voraciously read about the human body because it enables me to understand the connections between different structures. I also believe that learning about oneself puts you in a position of knowledge when we make choices of what activities to do. The human body is amazing and I would love to share my enthusiasm with you.

ASVAB

Being a veteran, I obviously have taken the ASVAB and I have helped many others who were motivated to join the military to attain the score which allowed them to join the service of their choice, as well as enter the career field they desired. We can work together and I can help you to go into the MEPS center confident.

Elementary Math

I have taught elementary education at local schools. I recognize the importance of individual attention and how it provides a positive learning environment. I am proficient in addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, decimals, percentages, fractions, sequencing, word problems as well as the many other areas which encompass this broad area of elementary math.

Handwriting

I have worked with children who are just learning to write (both manuscript and cursive) and believe that it is necessary to be able to communicate in written form. While many have relied on the computer and texting, the written word has significance in presenting ourselves well in a congenial manner. This fine motor skill will be something which you will pride yourself on and will provide you with a method of communication when you are off the grid, or when you want to be personal. Often people compliment me on my handwriting, which has not taken on much individual style, as it looks much as I was taught.

Sociology

Sociology is often paired in college curriculum with psychology and I had many courses which were entirely of sociology in nature. The study of human behavior, social groups and society provides us with evidence of why people interact in the manner that they do with others and through observation we can begin to make predictions or hypotheses about ourselves and those we study. What are the influences that impact decision making? Climate and culture (among other factors) have exerted pressure upon society.
