About Shane

I'm a music teacher currently residing in the Central VT area, serving students in grades K-12. I have experience teaching: guitar, band, chorus, theory, jazz music, and composition. I really love helping people find their passion for music, as well as what can be done to optimize one's own learning. I like to tailor individual instruction for each student in such a way that their goals can be effectively achieved.

I have been performing music for over 12 years and in over 14 different states. I've been in a fortunate enough position to have intensely studied different kinds of many different styles and time periods, which is essential for helping create specific instruction for students. Additionally, I've been teaching guitar privately for over 8 years, and music publicly for two.

I strongly encourage any individual that is looking to pursue music, whether it be as a hobby, or as a more serious pursuit. If you're interested please feel free to reach out and say hello. Teaching is an absolute passion and I look forward to being able to work with you sometime soon!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Ear Training

As a certified music educator and performer, I've spent hundreds of hours developing my own Ear Training. I have also taken multiple undergraduate courses that included Ear Training components, not only creating insightful ways to teach the subject, but also further my own development.

General Music

I currently teach at a K-12 School in Vermont, teaching multiple sections of General Music through grades K-6. Beyond this I've spent time teaching Middle School General Music in the state of New Hampshire.

Guitar

I've been playing guitar for 14 years, performing on the instrument for 11. I have taught guitar lessons for over 7 years, just not in any online format. I, also, have experience and knowledge with many different styles of guitar including: jazz, classical, rock, metal, folk, and acoustic-fingerstyle.
