For over 14 years I have helped people like you develop English speaking, vocabulary, grammar, reading, and writing skills, exploring the many exceptions and often confusing details of the language.
After talking with you to determine your current English speaking skills, and reviewing your writing sample, we would determine together your interests and skill needs. We would then develop your personalized learning plan and goals, deciding on the order in which skills may be tackled, and a pace of learning comfortable for you. I can help you select quality high-interest readings to improve speed and comprehension. We would also polish your writing and speaking skills.
I would help you apply your newly acquired skills to succeed in practical ways that you choose, such as in understanding important documents, the athletic coach's directions, or writing a letter to a friend. I will cheer you on when you ace an exam or lead an activity. Your joy of accomplishment will be my main goal.
My university studies in English education (B.S., UVM) and journalism (M.A., CU-Boulder), plus other graduate work in teaching reading and writing provided me with formal research and testing tutoring skills. I can help prepare you to write term papers or take standardized tests, including the TABE, GRE, ACT, or SATs.
Whatever learning environment works for you is fine for me. In a library, coffee shop, outdoors under a tree, or at the kitchen table are all good. I have helped a person with her with conversational skills while hiking. I have diverse interests, and respect those of others. I have written newspaper columns and created marketing materials for nonprofits and high-tech companies.
I believe in lifelong learning, and I appreciate how the tutoring process often brings me new insights about people and life in general. I would consider it a privilege to meet you and learn about your goals. Please let me know when you would like to begin the exciting work of improving your English language skills.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
