I spent 5 years teaching middle school aged students with Moderate disabilities after getting my MEd from Lesley University. After my family relocated to Vermont 2 years ago and I became pregnant with our 2nd child, I chose to step back from full time teaching. Now that my youngest is getting more independent I am interested in getting back to teaching and doing what I love - helping students develop confidence in their own abilities so that they can achieve academic and personal success.

I have worked with students with moderate disabilities (ADHD, dyslexia, executive functioning) as well as regular Ed students with specific needs, such as English Language Learners. I have learned many helpful strategies for working directly with students to find the best way for them to understand a certain subject, be it reading, writing, vocab, or literature.

In my many years working with dyslexic students, the most important thing I’ve learned it to develop strategies that work for each student, because each student learns differently. While I believe this is simply a good teaching method for all students, it is particularly helpful for dyslexic students who have experienced failure due to being forced to learn things in a certain way, rather than the way that they best understand.

I look forward to working with students to help them discover confidence in their own potential and experience success academically, and on a personal level. Every student deserves to be taught in a way that helps them learn best, and I hope to be able to do this for my students!

Elementary (K-6th)

I have had the honor of teaching students in PreK through 9th grade during my 7 years in the classroom, and have worked with many different subject areas. I have specialized training in teaching language arts for students with moderate disabilities, and find that the strategies I use with that population of students are helpful for students of all ages and abilities. I hope to help students develop confidence in their own abilities and strategies that will help them better access the material. I have my Masters of education and five years experience working with students with specific language based learning disabilities, as well as multiple years substitute teaching throughout the district, providing me with opportunities to work with many different ages of students and types of learners.

I have worked for 5 years in language arts classrooms helping students develop their own voice in their writing. This might mean working on organizational strategies, or vocabulary development, or even where to begin. I really enjoy developing these skills with students and helping them grow confident in their writing.

I received my Masters of education in 2012 and have been working with students with moderate language based disabilities since then. I spent 2 years as a Language Arts Specialist in a tutorial center at Hillside School (MA), followed by 3 years as a Language Arts teacher at the Carroll School (MA). Since moving to Vermont 2 years ago I have done substitute teaching in K-12, working with a variety of different students with a variety of different needs, but continuing to use my skills working as a language arts teacher of students with disabilities and applying them to new teaching experiences. I am also certified in the Orton Gillingham approach.
