Bio

My name's Jacob! I am currently an undergraduate student at the University of Virginia majoring in computer science. I've always had a deep interest in math and science, and I've always found that a good teacher is one of the most important components when it comes to learning. With a great teacher, I was engaged in the subject matter, even if the course wasn't in a subject area that I have a particular interest. With that in mind, I try to make sure that, when I'm tutoring, I am clear and concise with the information I provide while still being engaging.

Generally, I try to use to examples when I am tutoring in math, as I have always found that it is easier to apply the theories after I have seen them in action. After the initial examples, I usually give the students a few problems to work out on their own to make sure that they understand what I have taught them. While this is a general overview of how I typically conduct my lessons, I am willing to be flexible and change my lessons as a student's individual needs may dictate.

I have about 2 years of peer tutoring experience. Almost all of this experience is one-on-one tutoring sessions for an hour or two at a time. During this time, I have tutored in varying levels of math, ranging from prealgebra to calculus. In my tutoring sessions, I have acted as both a supplement to what the student has learned in class as well as to make up for any gaps in knowledge the student may have concerning the subject matter.

I want to make sure that the student gains the most out of our sessions as is possible, so I appreciate any resources that students or parents can provide me with. I try to make it a point to be easy to reach, and therefore try to respond as quickly as my schedule allows. If you have any questions, feel free to get in touch and ask!

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Jacob spends a lot of time helping my 7 th grader in his algebra subject. He listens and actually explains how to do the work. Jacob is very understanding and works well with my son.

Knowledgable and patient

Jacob responded very quickly to a last minute request. He was very patient and made sure my daughter understood the material before moving on. I would definitely use him again.
