As a former teacher of English and History at East Carolina University, I am not only excited about helping students be successful in school today but at the same time be prepared for the next level. I have always made comprehension and insight my primary goals when teaching, and I think that makes it more engaging for the student. I would be excited to help students in English, writing, grammar, history, social studies, and government.
I have taught students who have found themselves in many different situations. I have taught in the university classroom, at community colleges, and on military bases. Before graduating I also substitute taught in public schools.
In addition to teaching history at East Carolina, I was also awarded a highly competitive fellowship for graduate study in history with one of the premier graduate schools in the country at Emory University. My teaching at East Carolina allowed me to learn how to make real understanding of the material accessible to students.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Master's Degree in English and in my verbal GRE finished in the top percentile. I have taught English including writing, grammar, and literature at East Carolina University, Pitt Community College, Lenoir Community College, and the ECU Division of Continuing Education. Also many friends and family ask me to help family members in grade school.
I hold graduate degrees in both English and History.
My honors include being granted a Lecturership reserved for the most outstanding graduate student in English for the years 1982 and 83 inclusive, scoring in the top percentile for the Verbal GRE Exam, and receiving a Fellowship at Emory University.
