“**Extremely happy to have found this excellent Tutor!**”

Hi. My name is Mike, and I currently teach mathematics at a private, college preparatory high school. I have also taught math and science at the middle school level. My primary focus is in tutoring students in pre-algebra through calculus and I enjoy working with students at all levels of education from elementary through college. I have

Michael is a wonderful tutor. He has the knowledge, talent, and patience to break down each step and tie it together logically to allow for a solid basis of understanding. His kind mannerism made me realize right away that we made an excellent choice in selecting his service. Our daughter has reached a new level of confidence and is eager to meet with him on a continuous basis to achieve her goal of success.

michael is working with my son on his basic geometry skills. He is able to explain concepts to my son so he understands them clearly. He is working to build my son's knowledge base of geometry skills.

Mr. S. is very good at explaining new concepts. He is patient and encouraging. My son's grades in geometry clearly improved because of his weekly tutoring with Mr. S. I would definitely recommend him.

Needed help for high school math curriculum and the personal detailed plan is a huge step towards a senior successful year.

Very good tutor. We only met once but he was most helpful and his instruction was very easy to understand. I hope to be able to use him again in the future.

I like to consider myself a relatively quick learner, but something about learning math (specifically Trigonometry) at an online college was proving difficult for a multitude of reasons. I found Michael through the WyzAnt site because I was in need of a one-on-one environment to work out the kinks that I ran across from learning college math online. I found that his teaching style worked perfectly with my learning style, and he was able to offer me tips and tricks that helped me enormously when I was working through each week's homework and exam. He was flexible in both work time and location, meeting me either in the early morning or late afternoon; this was very important to me because I currently work night shift hours and I was afraid I would never find someone who would be willing to meet me when it was convenient for me. I was struggling with what now feel like basic math concepts, and Michael was able to boost my grades from low 80s to 90s and 100s just by working with me once a week on particularly tough sections and helping me to identify simple ways to work through and remember the problems I was dealing with. Even though he typically teaches trigonometry at the high school level, once we hit the "pre-calculus" levels of the college trigonometry course he was still able to work through those sections with me. I would recommend him to anyone in need of a math tutor at any level, because he is patient and flexible and teaches you what you need to know from the ground up.

Mr. S. is an amazing tutor. I had a hard time understanding some of the assignments from my Honors Pre-Cal class, and Mr. S. made everything clear and easy to understand by breaking down the problems step by step. I even improved a whole letter grade on my report card. I would recommend him to anyone who may have difficulty with understanding math.

Both my Mom and myself were greatly impressed with the concern and preparedness Mr. S. exhibited from even before my first session. He requested the publisher and textbook before our first session to be completely prepared of understanding the material I was covering in my class. This followed through our sessions as I would e mail calculus material being taught the day before our session and Mr. S. would be ready to cover it with me. Calculus is the only math class I've struggled with and Mr. S. helped me understand the concepts totally. I'm really grateful to Mr. S. for his dedicated help. He goes beyond the call of duty to ensure his students succeed. He even told me tips about going to college which I found helpful. I thank him wholeheartedly for his help.

Michael-

You'll be glad to know I passed all four USCG captain's tests today after the two-week school that you prepped me for. I finally figured out set and drift. I mastered the fix from three points and became adroit at the plotting problems. I needed a 70 to pass and got an 89, so I knew you'd be proud. Thanks to your patience and tutoring, I was better prepared going into the course and would have floundered otherwise. Your rolling combination plotter proved a godsend on the long plots far removed from a nearby compass rule. Tutoring works, thanks to you!

My son says he makes everything more understandable and that the tutoring sessions enhance the time in class. He is very patient and seems to really enjoy teaching math. I wish we had known about him last year!

Approved subjects are in **bold**.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have worked with both students who struggle with the subject and those who excel. I show students how to approach algebra as a problem solving process, as appropriate, to accelerate learning. By focusing on applications and problem solving I help students to see why Algebra is important. I utilize online learning tools to provide practice and assessment.

Calculus is where all the math you have learned in school comes together. Sometimes calculus texts can be hard to understand, so I use online tools to provide extra explanation, practice and assessment of skills through the course.

Chemistry is the study of matter and energy and the interactions between them. Chemistry tends to focus on the properties of substances and the interactions between different types of matter, particularly reactions that involve electrons. Understanding chemistry helps you to understand the world around you. Cooking is chemistry. Everything you can touch or taste or smell is a chemical. When you study chemistry, you come to understand a bit about how things work. It provides the explanation for how everyday things work. We will work together to help you understand the basics of chemistry and show how the processes work together.

Elementary math is the foundation for success in the upper grades. I work to make math fun and understandable and help prepare you for success.

Geometry is my best subject. I am a former geometry teacher.

I am a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Southern Methodist University with a degree in chemistry and mathematical sciences. Organic Chemistry was my best course in college.

I help students understand how to derive the various identities rather than memorize. Learning trig this way can help avoid fear of testing and/or forgetting the identities.
