I am a 3rd grade teacher at a Title I school, and a recent graduate of a Master's Program in Elementary Education, wherein I completed a year of student teaching. I am passionate about working with students and enabling them to grow in confidence both inside and outside of the classroom. In my teaching, I differentiate instruction to meet students’ various and specific needs. My goal is to encourage as many students as possible to fall in love with learning, and I strive to meet this goal by developing lessons that make use of various instructional models and strategies, and incorporating hands-on activities in order to provide students with a powerful, active, and purposeful learning experience.
I am experienced in both upper- and lower-elementary mathematics, and with teaching a variety of learners. I am able to adapt curriculum and differentiate to meet a student where they are in understanding the material, and use engaging lessons to push them further in their understanding. In my math lessons, I am a big fan of using manipulatives and real-world situations in order to make abstract concepts more relatable.
In reading, I have worked rigorously with my students to enhance fluency and comprehension. In my classroom, I have implemented guided reading groups, the Daily 5 workshop, and book clubs. When working with your student, we will use a variety of fiction and nonfiction in a variety of formats (passages, novels, functional text) to meet grade-level standards more.
I have recently graduated with a Master's Degree in Elementary Education, and hold a Virginia License for K-6. During this program, I completed one semester in a 6th Grade Advanced Academics Program classroom and a semester in a 3rd Grade classroom. I am now completing my first year as a 3rd Grade Classroom teacher in a Title I school.
I am available throughout the summer to tutor students and help prevent the "summer slide"! Please contact me with any questions you may have, and if you are interested in a tutoring session. I look forward to working with you! I am a 3rd grade teacher at a Title I school, and a recent graduate of a Master's Program in Elementary Education, wherein I completed a year of student teaching. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
