About Tom

I am an archaeologist who has been working in cultural resource management for just over four years. I have participated in excavations with contexts ranging from paleo-indian to late 19th century industrial sites. My professional experience includes both field excavation, laboratory research, and historical document research. I currently hold a B.A. in History, and I have completed the course work for my M.A. in Anthropology with a focus in historical archaeology. I am currently writing my thesis on 17th century plantation contexts.

I have previously worked as substitute teacher, and as an instructor at a Boy Scout aquatics camp. I have supervised field projects and helped less experienced field technicians and volunteers learn field skills in archaeology. The thing I enjoy most about teaching is watching the people I help gain confidence with new skills or master skills on which they have been working.

My professional experience makes me particularly qualified for tutoring in the subjects of Anthropology and Archaeology.

I have experience giving public and professional talks in my research areas, leading tours of historical sites, and explaining the history of the archaeological sites that I have worked on. I have professional experience conducting historical research with primary and secondary secondary sources to produce professional and academic research papers, including docent instructional materials.

Please feel free to contact me if you would like me to help you with any courses or interests related to history, anthropology or archaeology.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
