I specialize in Spanish tutoring. I studied Spanish in high school and graduated with AP Spanish level 5. I majored in Spanish in college at Christopher Newport University and in my second year transferred to a Spanish-speaking college in Puerto Rico. I lived in Puerto Rico for a period of one year perfecting my Spanish. I speak Spanish on a regular basis. I have previous experience tutoring those in Spanish. I tutored a girl who came to me with a "D" in Spanish, and she finished the year with a "B."
My tutoring method is very straightforward, and I expect students to do their part as well. Learning a language is about engaging oneself. It is impossible to learn a language by simply looking at a book. I work on pronunciation, spelling, and grammar. I work with students to find how they learn the best. Some need strict guidance, while others prefer repetition. I like to "assign" additional activities for students to ensure they are in fact learning the language and not simply memorizing. I am very patient and will explain things in 20 different ways if I must. My goal is to ensure a student is comprehending the material and feeling confident.
I teach ages 6-65. You are never too old to start learning a language and you are never too young to begin. So jump right into Spanish and have fun while doing it. I tutor those who need help with Spanish in school and I enjoy teaching those wanting to learn just for fun.

Janae is very nice, easy to understand and work with. She knows the way second languages are taught in our school system. She is patient and went out of her way to meet with me.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have played the violin for 13 years. I started giving private lessons when I was just 16 years old. I played for the orchestra while I was at Christopher Newport University and was a part of the Youth Orchestras of Prince William County and the Virginia Regional Orchestra.
