I am a professional educator with 15 years of experience teaching all elementary school subjects from Kindergarten through 6th grade and Middle School Math. I love to teach and I spend a great deal of my time in my current part-time job as a Title 1 Math Resource Teacher working with small groups and one on one tutoring. In other words, helping struggling students is my specialty!
I am extremely patient and have a way of explaining things so that students understand them easily. As a student who sometimes struggled myself in school, I can relate to many of the academic misconceptions and questions people develop through their school careers and I can help.
I believe that learning should be fun or at least interesting; one only learns information in which one holds an interest. Let me help you be an academic success! Hello,
I am a professional educator with 15 years of experience teaching all elementary school subjects from Kindergarten through 6th grade and Middle School Math. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught in elementary schools for my entire teaching career. I began my first year teaching all subjects in Kindergarten, then spent the next 9 years teaching intermediate grades (4th 1 year, 5/6 1 year and 6th grade for 8 years). Although I have spent most of my classroom time teaching all subjects, I have spent the last 5 years focusing on Math as a Math Coach for teachers and Math Resource Teacher working with both teachers and students.
I have a California Teaching Credential which allows me to work with K-8 students in a multiple subject environment and a Virginia Professional Teaching Licence which permits me to work with students in K-6 multiple subjects.
I was painfully shy for the first 20 years of my life. As a matter of fact, my family had very little confidence in my ability to succeed in college due to my seemingly overwhelming shyness and reluctance to speak at all.
I actually excelled in college and have since become a leader in several school and community-based organizations. I receive many positive comments on my ability to communicate clearly and effectively. Now, I present to large groups of teachers (and there is no more a judgmental audience than a bunch of teachers) and I have literally walked out to a standing ovation.
I have taught debate (forensics) and have always worked with my 6th grade students on improving their speaking skills. I have been specifically trained in the planning, writing and delivery of professional presentations through the National Staff Development Council.
If you want to learn the skills and abilities behind effective public speaking, I can teach you. It's all in the preparation. If you are adequately prepared, everything else is breeze! I will teach you how to plan, write and deliver effective presentations to any audience. I can also help you with some of the techniques to help you relax and deliver a flawless presentation or even if it's not flawless, how to make it look like you planned it that way.
