University of KY (History)
I am an experienced tutor. I have been tutoring over 25 years and have taught grades 2-12. My specialty is students with special needs i.e. ADD/ ADHD, and any student who is frustrated with their performance in school. I have taught many students who have emotional problems also, and have received special training in this field.
I began teaching in Lexington, KY and first taught 8th grade social studies. After marrying, I moved to Reading, PA. I taught 2nd, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade there for many years. When I moved to Virginia, taught in a highly regarded private school in Winchester, VA. There I taught 6th grade science, English 7th & 8th grade, Writing, 7th grade, History & Social Studies 8th grade and Religion. I have also taught many students with learning disabilities.
I began tutoring after several years witnessing the struggles of many students who needed one on one help. I also had first hand experience with students who had received tutoring and realized the advantages of it for students' enjoyment of learning as well as their school success. Realizing also that many parents are struggling with their children, adolescents, and teens with homework and school work, it became apparent that there was a definite need to offer support to parents as well. At that time, I started tutoring and have been tutoring for twenty-five years. I have tutored elementary, jr. high, high, community college, and college students. I have also extensive
experience in preparing students for SAT and ACT tests.
My charge may seem higher than others, but that is because of my special training and many years of experience I am an experienced tutor. I have been tutoring over 25 years and have taught grades 2-12. My specialty is students with special needs i.e. ADD/ ADHD, and any student who is frustrated with their performance in school. I have taught many students who have emotional problems also, and have received special training in this field.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
The main reason I feel qualified to tutor students in study skills is because I have taught this many times. The students that I have tutored have often been diagnosed with learning disabilities. They have had little success academically. After I have worked with them, their grades improve dramatically. I teach them organizational skills, study skills, long term assignment planning, research paper writing skills, and much more. I am a college graduate. I have taught in elementary schools, middle schools, high schools as well as tutored many college students over my 25 years of tutoring privately.
