The best tutoring starts at home. When my own grandmother didn't know monitor from mouse on her own computer, I spent time patiently teaching her in the very foreign, very unique world of technology. Less than a week later, she was surfing the web and frequenting with email! From this sprouted a love of educating individuals one-on-one in a variety of fields. As a specialist in both technology and writing, and a great tutor overall, I can bring the same care, patience, and guidance as I was able to give my own family into lessons with you.

ELA, WRITING, VOCABULARY:
I am a part-time writer, working professionally on numerous creative writing projects including poetry, short stories, novels, and scriptwriting. Whether it is helping a young student learn the basics of English grammar, or it is helping foster a new hobby as a writer in someone older, I can help bring any person to greater knowledge of English Language Arts. As a writing and English tutor, I can assist you in a variety of fields including: grammar, proofreading and editing essays, improving sentence structure (active vs. passive voice), storytelling, and vocabulary. Have you ever wanted to understand how to break down a sentence? Have you ever wanted to craft a story that would blow your friends and family away? You've come to the right place!

COMPUTER/TECH/MICROSOFT
I am a college student who has grown up with computers his whole life, yet is patient and understanding about the numerous individuals out there who struggle to keep up with modern technology. With more family members and friends using more tech devices to socialize and work, it is important for there to be resources for people to learn basics of computers and phones. As a basic computer tutor, I can assist you in a variety of fields including: typing, e-mail, social networking, Microsoft Office, and how to use the internet to your advantage. Have you ever wanted to become a "Google guru?" Have you ever wanted to start a blog? You've come to the right place!

OTHER SKILLS
I was an adept Math student, not only taking advanced classes in grade school and high school, but also placing high in my SAT scores. With over twelve years of Catholic education and practice, I can share the foundations of the faith clearly to any person, especially if grades depend on it. In order to become a skilled chess player, I was challenged by my own grandfather weekly as a child, moving from foolish mistakes to timed matches. I have learned a variety of skills as I have grown. If I don't mention something, feel free to ask - there's a good chance I may be able to teach it regardless!

General Computer,

General Computer

I have been using Windows computers since Windows 95, and grew up on and around computers. I have completed both hardware and software installs for family and friends. As a former blogger and social media manager, I am familiar with internet skills and conduct. My tutoring process stems from teaching seniors in my family, which required starting from a point where someone has no experience (they now are regular users of a Mac).
Microsoft Outlook,

Microsoft Outlook

I acquired and practiced my own contact management and calendar scheduling on Microsoft Outlook during High School. I am able to teach aspects including but not limited to: syncing contacts from other contact managers, syncing emails, using calendars for scheduling, and synchronizing with other Microsoft applications.
Microsoft Windows,

Microsoft Windows

I have extensively used all Windows operating systems from Windows 98 up to and including Windows 8.1 (Excited for the release of Windows 10!). I can teach not only how to navigate Windows OS, but to optimize it to its fullest potential. This includes but is not limited to user customization, display, installation of programs, Internet Explorer, file navigation, multiple monitors, and internet access (including Wifi). This also includes troubleshooting, such as the use of Safe Mode.

Proofreading,

Proofreading

As a part-time writer of fiction, I need to preserve good sentence structure within my own written work. Previously as a private school student for 12 years, I developed a strong focus on proper grammar and sentence structure. I also achieved a 730 on the Writing section of the SAT. As a professional beta-reader and proofreader, I commonly assist in reviewing and improving sentence structure in other people's work.

History

Religion

Religion

My main religious concentration is Catholic. I attended Catholic grade school (St. William the Abbot, Seaford) and Catholic high school (Chaminade High School, Mineola), taking religious classes in both. I also attended Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, where I studied philosophy (including Catholic philosophers such as Augustine and Aquinas) and took several theology classes. I involve myself regularly in faith practices through attending weekly masses, reading about current events involving the Church, and a semi-regular reading of Catholic literature (classic and current).

Homeschool

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

In 8th Grade, I was in advanced math, and took Algebra before I entered high school, placing me a year ahead of my fellow classmates. Also in elementary school, I was a finalist in a Math Bee competition, meaning my mental computation of math problems was advanced and I did not (and many times do not) need paper and pen to complete basic math. In high school I ended up taking Calculus in Senior Year as a result of advanced placement. I achieved a 680 on the Math Section of the SAT, and a 34 out of 36 on the Math section of the ACT.

Special Needs

ADHD

ADHD

I am an adult diagnosed with minor ADHD who has learned to manage his disorder without medication. I took medication throughout most of my grade school and high school career. I am a strong believer in active learning and trying teaching styles that respond better to ADD and ADHD students who may need to learn actively. I have learned to be very patient with myself, and also have learned to overcome weaknesses in time mismanagement and obsessiveness to become a successful student, learner, and functioning adult.

Sports/Recreation

Chess

Chess

I have been playing chess since I was a child, and first learned from my grandfather the simple skill of keeping concentration. I continued practicing chess until I was able to do timed matches with friends in college. I keep up my game by playing with a friend who teaches in a local chess school. I have knowledge of basic checkmate moves and can help develop a student's basic strategy in the game.
