I love teaching and working with young people. My 14 years of teaching at the high school level as well as my varied experience working with children are paramount in my success as a tutor. pride myself on my ability to teach the same concept in many ways and my ability to create interesting lessons and practice activities to interest my students.
My teaching experience over the past 14 years includes teaching 9th, 10th and 11th grade English - reading, writing, and literature. I have excelled with all levels of students, successfully teaching advanced students through collaborative students and students with special needs. I have taught public speaking for grades 9-12. My experience coaching VHSL Forensics has bolstered my ability to build confidence and prepare my students for life in high school and beyond. I have done extensive work with the VA English SOL test, both teaching 11th grade SOL as well as remediation for the 8th and 11th grade reading and writing SOL tests.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught high school for 14 years. I have taught 9th grade - 11th grade for all levels - collaborative, general and advanced. I have extensive experience with VA SOLs - 8th grade and 11th grade EOC (both the writing and the reading tests). I have taught the SAT prep class at our high school. These are my qualification to tutor writing, literature, grammar, VA SOL prep.
I have taught public speaking at the high school level (9-12 graders) for four years. My class was so popular; large student interest caused the class to be offered both semesters. I have been a VHSL Forensics coach and judge for 10 years. As a TWH breed spokesperson, Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, as director of Bible school and as a coordinator of Link Crew, I have spoken publicly on a variety of subjects and in various situations.
