My experience in sports, specifically soccer, includes 17 years at the youth, high school varsity, and collegiate levels of play. Presently, I coach varsity girls soccer at my former high school. I teach all skills and aspects of soccer, including conditioning and endurance, ball control, footwork, rules, techniques, tactics (offensive and defensive), and goalkeeping. My philosophy of coaching stresses teamwork. In high school, I also played volleyball, basketball, and ran cross country.
My performing arts experience also includes many years, from youth to collegiate. I danced for numerous years in various styles, ranging from ballet to jazz, hip hop to pointe, and gymnastics to tap dancing. In high school, I participated in many musicals as an actress, singer, dancer, dance captain and assistant choreographer. I also sang soprano and danced in show choir (much like that of GLEE), and played percussion in both the concert and marching bands.
I have a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education, concentrating in Exercise Science, with minors in music and coaching. I've studied anatomy, physiology, and nutrition. I currently work at an adolescent hospital as a behavior counselor. I can read and write music and know music theory. I have training in aural skills.
I have worked with many age groups, from elementary school to middle and high school, as well as mentally handicapped adults and troubled, at-risk teens.
I am proficient in computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office.
I can relate to students with learning disabilities as I myself have one. I know how to overcome struggles associated with them and have coping tools to share. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I became self taught in middle school, taking classes to become more knowledgeable. I played percussion throughout high school, including marching band and concert band. I played in college with applied lessons by a very talented percussionist.
I studied music all through high school and into college. I took music theory for 2 years as well as aural skills. I have a minor in music from an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music (Chowan University).
I started playing soccer at age 7. I played in high school and in college on a scholarship. I have coached various ages, including 4 & 5 year olds for recreation, to 14 year olds club teams, to high school varsity teams. I currently coach varsity girls soccer at my former high school. I focus on all aspects, including (but not limited to) technical skills, ball control, speed, endurance, change of direction, stance, rules of the game, and goalkeeping.
