About Adam

Greetings, fellow student! If you're looking to improve your knowledge of mathematics, science, history or the arts, then you've certainly come to the right place! My name is Adam, and I excel in all of these categories!

I have been tutoring children since I was in elementary school. When I was in the 5th grade, my teachers asked me to tutor a boy in the 3rd grade who as struggling with his arithmetic. I took on the challenge, and it kick-started my passion for teaching.

I am an engineering student at Brigham Young University-Idaho. Geometry & Trigonometry are HUGE parts of any engineer's skill set. I believe that I can effectively find ways to help you understand geometry the way I do.

During my senior year at Liberty High School, I served as the Drum Major, substitute conductor (Band & Choir), and first-choice Low Tenor for the All-VA Choral Festival. I have composed musical scores for film (link provided here), which received national attention. I also began my musical career playing the drums.

In my down time at BYU-Idaho, I took several ballroom classes. I learned the basic steps quickly enough that I began assisting the instructor by partnering with the students who were having a hard time learning. With time, and a little patience, I was able to help every girl I partnered with.

I am a young guy living in Warrenton, VA. My talents are yours to command; all you need to do is send me a message via Wyzant to get started.

I look forward to meeting you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Ballroom Dancing

I taught ballroom to my youth group as a teen. I have also taken formal ballroom classes and several workshops in college. Now, to be clear, I have only learned the basics of Waltz, Foxtrot, Cha-Cha, and East Coast Swing. I can dance other genres, but I have not received formal education on these forms.

Composition (Music)

I have composed several pieces of music, one of which was almost performed by my high school band (there wasn't enough time to rehearse it before the concert). After high school, I was requested by the Marine Corps Association to write the score for their 100th Anniversary celebratory film. I am currently trying to get my music published in the video game industry.

Drums

I have played concert percussion since 2006. As a freshman, I beat out seniors for a place on the Marching Eagles' Snare line (a highly skilled position). I continued to play percussion throughout my high school career. I continue to play percussion to this day.

General Music

I studied music in middle and high school. As a high school student, I began to get more intense training and education. By my senior year, I was a lead performer in the school's musical productions, the drum major in the marching band, and I had even composed my own band piece.

Sight Singing

As a high-schooler, I was selected three times to represent my school in the VA District IX Choral festival, and twice as 1st choice 2nd Tenor in the All-VA State Choral Festival. I was taught by my choir director to use solfege to decipher the sight-singing pieces in the auditions. I also assisted others in finding the true notes on the page.

Voice (Music)

I was singing before I could speak. I studied choral music in high school for three years, and was often selected as a soloist. I was also selected for several challenging vocal events, such as the All-VA State Choral Festival, and another solo at the VA District IX Choral Festival.
