I am a licensed teacher with 15+ years of teaching experience. I was a third grade teacher and then became an Interventionist. I work with students grades k-5 that have difficulty with reading in many areas, including word study for decoding, spelling, fluency and comprehension. I help students read independently and on grade level. I have had lots of students pass benchmarks during the school year as well as pass their sol's!
I really enjoy working with children and seeing them grow and become independent readers. It's really important for me to build positive, trusting relationships with my students and for them to feel good about themselves and reading. I also enjoy teaching kids test taking strategies for sol's that they need to take at the end of the year!

I was an Interventionist for 9 years and worked with small groups of students that were below grade level and helped them to reach grade level expectations.
I love teaching kids test taking strategies! This is actually an area that I can't wait to teach. My students usually do very well after working with me and many have passed their sols

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
