About Sarah

Learning has been a lifelong love of mine. As a graduate student pursuing my Master's in Elementary Education, I have a very clear understanding of how hard work and a little extra practice can go a long way in preparing for the future. My experience with students has varied across all age groups and abilities, and I am always delighted to watch their self-confidence rise as they start to see their academic scores improve.

I graduated from Radford University with my Bachelor's in Communication Disorders. Due to the nature of my degree, I have a very detailed insight into the key components of reading, writing, phonics and the overall structure of the English language. I believe in an interactive and hands-on approach to learning, and it is my goal by the end of each lesson to ensure that the student has a firm grasp over the concepts that have been presented to them during the session.

I look forward to hearing from you and am excited to assist you/your student in reaching their full potential.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

Biblical Studies has been an intricate part of my education. I attended Christian Private School for most of my primary education and during high school I took "History of World Religions" courses. Beyond that, I've been teaching Sunday school since 2007. Currently, I am pursuing my Master's at Liberty University and much of my course work is infused with a biblical world view.

Elementary (K-6th)

My course work for my Bachelor's in Communication Disorders emphasized child development and language acquisition. As I am pursuing my Master's in Elementary Education, I am obtaining knowledge of the most current methods and philosophies for instructing primary aged students. This knowledge qualifies me to instruct students in an effective manner across a variety of subjects

Reading

One of the key components to my BS in Communication Disorders is the study of language development and understanding the mile stones that a student should be reaching by a particular age. Understanding this provides me with a unique perspective for tutoring reading. Given the student's age and reading difficulties, I can then assist the student in developing a plan to reach their reading goals.

Religion

Biblical Studies has been an intricate part of my education. I attended Christian Private School for most of my primary education and during high school I took "History of World Religions" courses. Beyond that, I've been teaching Sunday school since 2007. Currently, I am pursuing my Master's at Liberty University and much of my course work is infused with a biblical world view.

Writing

As a graduate student ( or professional student as I like to call myself :) ) I have numerous years of experience in writing. I've taken courses specifically focused on syntactical structure, attended SAT essay prep courses and assisted in editing peers writing assignments.
