In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I teach Algebra I in a local public middle school. I have taught Algebra I for the last 4 years to 7th and 8th grade students. We have accomplished a 100% SOL rate for each of those years. I have also tutored one-on-one with the same results. I also have a background in gifted ed and Avid, therefore, I am well equipped with varied strategies to help with mathematical conceptual understanding. Additionally, I have taught Math 4- Algebra I and coached a Math Counts team for two years.
I am qualified to teach elementary ed because I taught elementary gifted education for three years. I was required to teach across the content, therefore, I incorporated math, English, science, and social studies. I have completed at least four classes at WMU while working on my certification which focused on elementary education. I have taught mostly middle school, but we reteach and spiral using elementary foundations.
