Old Dominion University (elementary education)
I am currently a junior at Old Dominion University studying elementary education. Aside from working towards my degree, I work as a care provider for two teenagers with autism. This job involves teaching life and social skills. I also work with them to improve their reading and writing skills. In addition, I am a volunteer tutor for Virginia Beach schools. I go into a classroom once a week and tutor first grade students in reading and writing.
I am extremely anxious to start my career as a teacher, but love tutoring and working with children in the meantime. I have gained experience in multiple elementary classrooms throughout my coursework in college. I am creative in the ways in which I teach, and understand children learn best when they're having fun and active! I am currently a junior at Old Dominion University studying elementary education. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am currently a junior in college majoring in Elementary Education (K-6th). I have multiple hours of experience in elementary classrooms in which I participated in lessons, interviewed teachers and also observed lessons being taught. I am also a reading and writing tutor for a local first grade classroom. Every week, I go over sight words and work on spelling. We then take a picture walk through a new book, and I help my students read the book completely. Afterward, my students write a good sentence about what they read. I also nanny a 4th grader in which I read with him on a daily basis and help in with math problems. He likes various programs on the internet that help him understand math better, and we also play various math games.
